Exhaust Differences?? Need to know..

Hey guys,

So, I'm going back to a stock exhaust on my car. Getting ready to potentially trade it in. But I've got a few questions..

- Is there any difference in the header and/or downpipe between the SS 2.4 and the SS s/c? I don't know what the turbo set-up is on the t/c, but might as well throw that in too if I can use it..

- Is there any difference in the actual catback in the SS 2.4 vs the SS s/c vs the SS t/c? Will the t/c exhaust bolt directly up to mine? Wasn't sure of flange sizes, bolts, tubing, etc.

I have an 06 2.4 and am currently running an OEM SS 2.4 header/dp and a hybrid catback of GMPP tubing, OEM SS 2.4 resonator, and a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler.

So I just wanted to see what my options were in converting. I have my eyes on an 09 t/c catback, and would likely get it if it fit. But I wasn't sure if the header/dp would allow that.

Any info asap would be great. Thanks!!

The only thing you'll need to check is that the catback has the same flange. It's gonna be either a 2 bolt or a 3 bolt. So long as it matches up with yours, you'll be fine.

Word. How about tubing difference? Header/dp differences? As-in, would it be worth it to get an SS s/c header/dp while under there?

All I know, is that by using a ZZP midlength header, 3" custom DP with a metallic spun cat, vibrant race muffler and ZZP's interlocking flex, fed into the stock res, and then connected to the stock muffler with 2.5" piping, the car sounds really unique.

I spent way, way too much $ and TIME getting the right setup, but it is now perfect. No leaks, no rubbing, and no ******* ear-rupturing highway drone at 70 with the a/c on.

This is on a 2.0l LSJ. I actually received a compliment today at the beverage center. ha

I think, THINK... That the SS/SC pipes are a little wider, but I also don't think it'll make the biggest difference in the world. If you're looking for gains they'd probably comparable to the speculated gains/losses of an intake but I think you obviously know you're not gonna be running 10 second quarter miles from exhaust.

In all seriousness though I'd say it's cheaper to just go catback.

you can use a t/c catback on stock 2.4/lsj header dp. you obviously cant use the t/c turbo mani or downpipe unless you plan on going turbo 2.4 status

Ok sweet, so the t/c exhaust will for sure fit on my 2.4? Same flange bolt pattern? Is the tubing in the t/c catback any bigger because it's for a turbo?

And yes, I know what you mean. I spent far too much money on my exhaust, and now look.. Going back to stock. I've had a ZZP header/dp along with a GMPP Performance exhaust, an Ark N2 exhaust, and now my hybrid set-up. They all sounded fine, but forget that. OEM time.. lol

To the best of my knowledge, TC used a 3 bolt flange on the catback while SS/NA and SS/SC use a 2 bolt flange.

tc has a 3 bolt flange, the rest are 2. the ss/na and the ss/sc uses the same catback. if your car is a automatic, the downpipe is different then the 5 speeds.

Gotya. Is the LS header/dp different sizing than the SS or is the only difference the catback?

I'd assume, but you never know.. lol

But i don't know about the 5 speed vs auto.. I had a ZZP header on mine for awhile.. It was on a 5 speed before mine..

Don't use the LNF muffler on a N/A engine. It's straight through which in this case equates to noise and rasp.
