LOL.. you guys are still talking about this?

While it ran strong replacing the steering rack, column, bearings, intermediate shaft, and a list of other crap I decided to get something else. Really guys dont be so hurt. The cobalt really is a low quality car. I dont even need to say it, look at the thread were in.

I love how people get soo butt hurt over this. lol. Its a low quality car compared to competition yet they get soooo defensive over it. Like they actually think the cobalt is a Bentley compared to a mazda or something.

So you had a problem with your steering system, and all of a sudden the entire car is low quality?? You don't have a clue.

If you actually knew what you were talking about, you'd give the car credit for its good points instead of just its bad ones. Sure, it has economy car roots, as does the SRT-4, Civic Si, Mazdaspeed 3, ect. No getting around that. But the bottom line is its well built overall, and the quality of the mechanical parts is just as good or better than what you'll find on the competition.

The only reason GM said it was a crappy car is because he wasnt the VP when the cobalt came out. The Cobalt was only called shitty or low quality because the Cruze is coming out, just like the Cavalier was called crap when the Cobalt came out.

LOL so since we own it. we should just forgive the bad points? wtf just because we point out bad things doesnt mean we hate the car. Its just pointing them out. I bitch about my SS, but I got it for track use. Guess what? it rocks at track use. I dont hate it, theres just things that are @#$@#$@#$ annoying as **** about it.

WAAAIT quality of mechanics is better? Ya I love the ecotec, BUT the valve cover leaking, high pressure fuel pump area leaking oil on 99% of the lnfs!!? wtf. ya my ms3 didnt do that.... or have the breather nipple on the intake break off (hasnt happened to me yet) or the charge piping come off or the IC tank crack. The other cars have issues yes, but pointing them out doesnt make it a bad car.

I dont have a clue? lol.. ok here we go

replaced

steering column
bearings
windshield (the layering between the glass were seperating)
sun roof switch falls off
shifter knob pops off
door handle latch became disconnected multiple times
door handle chrome was peeling off
paint chips on door handles
bad steering rack
bad steering intermediate shaft
door and bumper not aligned correctly from factory (like most of us)
rear rotors rust and make that annoying sound in reverse

the competition? Well...there sun roof switched dont fall off lol. Like i said man, it makes good numbers but **** quality. Im suprised you debate this. I know other people with cobalt and they feel the same (after the first 3 years of the car)

While the motor and trans are good on these cars, the rest of the stuff just needed a little better design, rather then sacrificing quality for weight fuel economy and price. In fact this is why these damn cars do such good times and are at the price they are. They sacrifice somewhere. But really if you enjoy it, good for ya. I did at one time to. But dont try to say I dont know when Ive owned one.

so the cavalier was crap. The cobalt was crap. The Cruze will be high quality im sure of it.....

ya what makes me mad, is that my ms3 gt was loaded with everything a nicer luxury sedan/wagon would have, hid, auto sensing wipers, led tails etc. for $26k msrp. Then you have a cobalt ss loaded for the same price BUT with ******* zero options on luxury anything. the SS should of been priced near 20-21. But hey I paid what I thought my SS was worth.

Not a common failure point at all. Sounds like you got a defective column.

bearings
Bearings for what??

windshield (the layering between the glass were seperating)
Once again, defect. Not a common issue.

shifter knob pops off
Its pressed on. If you don't yank the hell out of it, it won't pull off. Thats 100% driver error.

door handle chrome was peeling off
Common issue, Civics and Accords do the same thing. You want quality door handles, buy a GTI.

paint chips on door handles
Those are called rock chips from the highway. Not the car's fault.

bad steering rack
bad steering intermediate shaft
door and bumper not aligned correctly from factory (like most of us)
rear rotors rust and make that annoying sound in reverse
Steering rack is not a common issue either. Its a manual rack, what the hell went wrong with it?? The door and bumper are a small issue, easily fixed under warranty. All bare ferrous metal will rust from moisture, thats why you drive the car and the pads clear off the rotor surface of rust. Thats not an issue with the car, that will happen to any car. You are seriously just nitpicking.

I'd like to mention although I love my 07 SS balt I've had it in the shop 3 times in 2 months for transmission issues. GM is trying to blame me for 5th gear breaking, 5th gear synchro going out and the roll pin breaking, each of those are seperate occasions(the dealership also broke reverse when the mechanic went to go re-assemble the trans and they had to replace everything for reverse including the reverse switch). Mind you I drive 65 mph on the hghwy about 95% of the time on cruise control, I dont power shift, shift hard or anything that would even cause any form of damage. I've had the sunroof button/trim replaced for it just randomly falling off the, the leather around the shift knob was randomly coming undone ive been having consistent transmission problems. I would say these cars are honestly just bad quality in certain areas...sure they are quick and peppy but for the price and the headache and inconvenience when there are problems it just isn't worth it IMHO. I want my 97 Taurus back, never had any problems til 185k the trans wasn't allowing it to go into highway gear so id be at 55 mph rolling 4k rpms >.<

Also forgot to mention the reverse lockout broke on my shifter(the little plastic tab that clicks into the piece you pull up so that you can go into reverse is what broke)so at times I won't be able to shift into any gear unless I pull the leather boot up and manually dis-engage that piece to shift haha.

Do you work for chevy? The rust i was referring to is on the outside of the rotor. when you put it into reverse and it wet it makes a loud ass noise. Its common, because chevy chose not to coat the rotors. The wheel bearings were bad. Column was in part of the recall. Before chevy knew what it was. Chips on the inside of the interior. I actually found out how to fix the shifter *** on this site when it popped off. lol Actually this site helped me fix quite a bit in that car. You got a thunk on bumps yet? I got s fix! lol! Alright now im just being mean. Good luck with your car man.

It is what it is people a cheap but well performing car.. As they say.. Ya gotta pay to play and bang for buck.. This car is awesome.. So it has problems with it so what.. Alot of cars do.. Ppl forget its a cobalt.. Either way fixing little things is a small price to pay to see the look on a persons face when a "horrible" car passes them :P

so does this mean for our poor buying decision that we're all going to get vette upgrades or our next GM car for free no matter what it is? If not, where's the balance coming from for making us feel like crap for our purchases? I honestly love my balt minus it's lack of power door locks/windows, but honestly if you take a look at the competition, how many other companies still make base cars w/o those things. Power locks/mirrors/windows should go by way of air conditioning or a freaking steering wheel and be standard.

I want to upgrade to a Ford....I'm done with GM for as long as I live they will never have me as a customer again. They offer lousy customer service and their certified dealerships are ******* scandalous pieces of ***** >.<(well maybe not all but idk)the one I been taking my car likes to epoxy rear trans mounts when they break them after repairing the transmission itself and then voiding my warranties and trying to blame me for abuse.....pictures of everything, lawyers and other certified repair shops have documented everything I need for a clear cut winning case if GM chooses that route...

GM doesn't control the dealerships. If you think you can judge a company by its dealerships then I've got some ocean front property to sell you in Arizona.
