Help me decide...

Hi, all! First post here.

I'm contemplating a Cobalt SS. I need the 4 doors (dang family), so the naturally aspirated 172 horse SS Sedan is what I'm looking at. The wife wants a HHR, so I figured now would be a great time to update all vehicles.

Can you guys who have the n/a SS tell me a little about it? Maybe a few pics? Help me make up my mind whether I want to get rid of the 18 year old Porsche for a new Chevy. This is a toughie because my 944 has a special place in my heart, but that special place is starting to get displaced by that pain in my butt that the 944 also causes.

Oh, and by the way, I'm keeping the truck. That's my boy...

Heated seats are definitely a plus.... Nice choice on the truck! HHR's are neat, Tough decision on getting rid of the 944 though.

Thanks guys. The 944 is truly a love/hate relationship at this point. I love driving it...but I hate buying the parts for it and fixing every tiny thing that renders it useless. It's a vicious cycle.

As for heated seats, well, it's still in the 80's here in Texas, so I'll probably be passing on that option. If they have Ice seats, we'll talk...

i love my 2006 2.4L sedan (its an automatic). It is quick, sharp looking, and drives great. Has decent suspension, I love the 17's and the Pirellis, okay sound system, I have cloth seats and they are comfortable, huge trunk. Over all I would have to give the car an 7 of ten, for a family vehicle. I got the sedan because I hate not being able to fit more than 2 people comfortably, and I test drove a coupe and there is no way my buddies would fit back there with out the jaws of life.

Well...the dealer helped me decide. Seems we are WAY too upside down on my wife's Expedition to do anything. Dang. There goes the dream...

This just goes to show...DON'T BUY A FORD!!! You can NEVER be that desperate for a vehicle...

actually as far as i know the auto holds boost in between shifts which would essentially make the auto a better turbo choice and also very easy to launch which is what you stick guys are having a huge probelm with, i dont regret buying the auto at all

Why not go for the SRT4? It has 4 doors.

HHR and Cobalt

Funny, I just bought my wife an HHR the 2.4L Auto, and ordered myself a Cobalt SS/SC (no family yet). I drove the HHR for a little while and I loved it, the 2.4 is awesome. think I am gonna love the SS/SC. The wife finally took her car and stuck me with the Saturn VUE in the mean time. I sold the gas hog 2500HD with 8"fabtech lift and 36x14 tires. 10mpg sucks for a daily driver.

She's got her SUV that we'd drive together. She would rarely ride in the car (never drive it if I got a manual tranny... ) so I wouldn't have to listen to her whine about heated seats. It was 85 on Saturday. Dang...

Get the Cobalt. I live in Texas and the heated seats are not worth the money. One minute its 38 degree, then the next, its 87 degree. I cant go into much detail, but get the Cobalt. I have a customer that bought an HHR, and she says its nice, but that it rattles to much, hard steering, bluky look to it, and bad suspension... shes 48 years old, and her husband who owns a body shop got it for her for her birthday. The 944, wow, that would be hard. I say this as an outsider... since it probably paid off by now... keep the 944. And seeing that you have a family... you probably get good insurance coverage on that vehicle... so heres my suggestion...

Keep the 944!!! Its paid off, with low insurance... keep it as a weekend driver!

Keep the truck!! Of course... your in Texas, who doesnt have a truck!!

Get the SS Cobalt!! Great daily driver, with good ECON and engine life... Its a Chevy!

why do you need 4 doors? family or not it's daddy's toy ... think of it like this without 2 more doors, that's two less things to worry about going wrong ... there is plenty of space for the kids to sit still in the back of the ss/sc

The HHR is built in Mexico.
The Cobalt is built in Ohio.

If I had kids I would go for the Equinox.

I had an equinox. I'd recommend it. It had plenty of room. Mine just happen to have a lot of little crap go wrong with it. Nothing that couldn't be fixed. Mine was the exception. I was the first one to be sold and serviced within 1 week.
I truely liked driving it too. On the road, it was comfortable. I mean real comfortable. I made 4 trips from southeast virginia to timmins, ontario...about 1100 miles one way. I drove it to key westm another 1000 mile trip.
I would think about it though, it didn't have the dvd option, I could have added it after I got it, but those usually look like crap, IMO. If you have kids, you have to have a way to keep them occupied.
I think my biggest gripe with the equinox was that it got 19mpg in the city and maybe 24 highway.
If you are choosing between the HHR and the Equinox....hard choice. I'd go with a Trailblazer. They aren't that much more and with the red tag sale they can be had pretty cheap.

thats just to get off track....

Go with the SS Supercharged....

just my .02 cents

HHR noisy??????

Thats funny. That is the single most common comment about my wife's HHR. It is suprisingly quiet, handles like a dream. Every person who rides in it or drives it comments on the exceptional ride. Take one for a spin before judging. It is the same chassis as the Cobalt. There is almost zero wind noise. Every review I read says the same.

id definately go with the equinox over the HHR, but if you are going to get a 4-door SS, I would seriously think about the SS Impala instead of cobalt 4-door
