They will either want to have it repaired in a shop they have ties with and pay the shop directly or you will get an estimate and they will cut you a check once you find a body shop you want it repaired at. Unless you own the car out right, it will be a 2 party check. ie the lienholder will be on the check also so you gotta use it to fix the paint. You might be able to pay the difference to change the color.

that sucks so bad, sorry to hear that man. I had this happens to a friend of mine. He drove a 1998 Civic SI that was pretty modified but no real go fast parts. Mainly for show. Keyed his car everywhere. They totaled his car out last year.

And that's why I hate insurance companies... I pay them the full amount every month, but they still get to decide where, when & how I'll have my vehicle fixed? That's retarded.

Are you an *******?

JKIN lol

To repaint a car a different color is a shitload of time and extra money. To do it right they have to paint all the inside jams .... inside the trunk.... and under the hood is a whole other nightmare.

Sux bro, sorry to hear that. However, if you do sell or trade it, just dont tell the person that it was repainted. If the person asks then you can tell them but dont just offer up that info. It's not like it was in an accident or anything.

Won't it be written in the carfax anyway? Most people use CarFax before buying a car these day anyway.

RobK, I don't street race & I personally don't ever start road rage incidents, so I can't imagine someone doing this because of something I did.

I dont believe car fax reports on paint jobs. I could be wrong but think places only have to report to carfax in an event of an accident

I think it will show up if the insurance company pays the damages. I read a thread about a guys beamer getting hit by a shopping cart on all four sides and even thou it was vandalism ....it showed up on carfax.

I don't know about your state, but in Washington the insurance company has zero say whatsoever as to where you take your car to be repaired. I'd check into that if you have a question on it.

Also, I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could photoshop a few different paintjobs for me... Maybe see what an SS looks like with Kawasaki green or even the Camaro green. I have a green Kawasaki Ninja, too, so it'd be pretty cool IMO to have my car the same shade of green.
Are you nuts? you want to attract MORE attention to the car?

Its not the insurance company, its the Bank that requires that you fix it, should you default and they need to sell it to repay your debt.

I took my car to my bodyshop after the accident i was in a year ago, it went over the original estimate, they called the ins. company, got a supplement, and finished the car. i wouldn't repaint the whole car, the jambs would cost too much, or if you dont do them you wouldnt be happy with it, however you could two tone silver it with a kawi green Pinstripe, and getaway without painting the jambs and engine bay.

It'll be parked in the garage from now on. I'm not risking having this happen again.
If I have to get it painted, might as well go with a unique color, right? I'm going to lose value on the car anyway, so I just hope I can get it painted whatever color I desire.

The insurance company payout wont be enough to do a complete color change .....you will have to pay a good bit out of pocket to get it done.

Hmm... That sucks...

My insurance company sent someone to inspect the car. He said it was the worst keying he's ever seen.
I asked him if the insurance company would be okay with me having the car repainted a different color, and he said if the check is enough to get it repainted, then go for it; otherwise, they'll try to repaint it the current color.
Oh, well. As long as the damage is fixed, I'll be fine with whatever color it'll be.
I do really hope that they give me enough for an entirely new paint job, though.
