Horsepower Question..

Okay i'm new to cars and don't know much.. But I want to learn some things.. I want a really fast car.. And I look on youtube and don't see any cobalts above 450hp. I just want to know the MAX HP that a cobalt ss can handle, i have a 2005 one and love it but i want a faster car.. Also, is there any other engines i can swap it with so that i have more to work with and can max well over 400hp? I want this to be a hobby and every little bit spill some money into getting things to make it faster so i want a car i can get over 400, is it possible and how?

Keep in mind i want it to be street legal and I want it to be able to drive still, not trailer it everywhere or be a strict drag car! Want it to still be reliable and drivable!

Please get back to me and sorry about the very stupid noobie question!!

Assuming you have a supercharged cobalt
it is easy to make over 400whp with a turbo swap.

ZZPerformance - LSJ Turbo Complete Swap Kit #ZZ-LSJTSWP

Honestly man if you want a fast LSJ, then just turbo swap your car like stated above. There are many things that you can do to get your car to 400+ HP, just gotta spend the coin. There are many guys who can turbo-swapped their LSJ and came out with a very clean, fast and fun car to drive.

It should be pointed out that there's a LOT you can do with these engines. GM uses production 2.0L LSJ blocks in their ecotec drag cars that make 1,500 FWHP. The sky's the limit with these cars, just depends on how deep your pockets are.

Just remember you upgrade for speed expect to start breaking stuff.... Prime example my other car fiero 3.8 supercharged/intercooled. I've busted motor mounts and accelerated my transmission leak. Trans rebuild with lsd alone was 1500... Is it fun yeah, you often see people who build cars and sell them after a bit? Probably why.... I was on verge of selling my fiero from that.

This.

Also, people need to stop looking at all out horsepower as "fast".

You can have a 350whp SC car run faster 1/4 mile times than a 400whp TC car.

Powerband & gearing can make a world of difference.

Take what zrated did with his SS/SC.... TVS, 350whp +, 12.0s 1/4 mile.

You need to look at what you want out of the car, and go from there with your build.
