How hard is it to change Evap Purge Solenoid?

Long story short, I believe my Evap Purge Solenoid is causing some problems..

After speaking with my local dealer, they said the part was about $50.00.. and $150.00 to install it.. So $200.00 to have them order it and install it.

I figured I might ask.. How hard IS it to put a new one in?

Doing it myself would save me roughly $150.00

The part plus shipping should come out a little under $50 from CrateEngineDepot:

Cobalt Supercharged Evap Vent Solenoid Valve 12597567 - Crate Engine Depot

and as for install, it is very easy.

1.) Remove any hoses and electrical connectors that are attached to it.
2.) Remove the solenoid with bracket from the vehicle.
3.) Disconnect the solenoid from the bracket, replace with new, and reassemble everything the same way you disassembled it.

Edit:

Sometimes pictures say it best:

Is the Red or the Blue thing I circled what i'm looking for?

and the yellow hose that I kinda outlined.. Can I jsut get any hose (right size of course) and replace that one? or is it like a "special" hose? The reason I ask is because it's cracking really bad and just looks like it should be replaced.

And yess... in the midst of circled and outlining that stuff.. i realize it looks like a *****.. and that was NOT intentional. I SWEAR!

Its 3/16" at one end and 1/4" at the other.

GM P/N 14091622 just in case you cant find what you need.

did you ever order the hose?

I put in an order to my local dealer with the part number 14091622 that Pyros777 suggested and when I went to pick it up it was this small plastic fitting not the hose.

looking at the exploded view in this diagram here:
AP ENGINE ASM-2.0L L4 PART 5 MANIFOLDS,SUPERCHARGER & FUEL RELATED PARTS (LSJ/2.0P);. Fits: 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt | Nalley Buick GMC Brunswick

it would seem that part 911 is the correct part:
12584338 HOSE. Turbocharger/Supercharger Air/Vac/Cooling. $47.44

if that's the case I might just buy a foot of 3/16" and a foot of 1/4" with a 1/4 to 3/16 reducer because $50 for a vacuum line is ridiculous. Just wonder if you ended up replacing it if you recall the part number.

Wow, sorry about posting the wrong part number. That is what came up on gmpartsdirect.

#2 is listed as part number 14091622. The picture is kind of vague though.

12584338 definitely seems like the right part, but at that price I would rather just buy some 3/16" hose and bore out one end until it fits on the 1/4" connector.

Yea I noticed that too on GMPartsDirect, they have it screwed up.

rather than bore out the hose I went and bought about a foot of 1/4" ID hose and half of foot of 3/16" hose then I picked this up:

Buy Dorman - Autograde Hard Vacuum Tubing Connector Diameter A 1/4" Dia. B 3/16" 47304 at Advance Auto Parts

Yes its in the same position on the L61 engine. I had to replace mine about 2 years ago. Bought one new for about $25 shipped if I remember correctly.

EDIT: just noticed this thread is from last October

LOL $150 for not even 5 minutes of labor? you disconnect 2 hoses and 1 bolt. literally takes 2 minutes. what a scam. you shouldnt need to replace the hoses unless they are leaking.

I am trying to replace this in my 2008 Cobalt LT. I cannot get the solenoid to come off the bracket. I didn't remove the bracket from the engine. Is it necessary to remove the bracket from the engine?

It's not necessary, but it's easier.

I was able to switch them out. I blew in the old solenoid, and no air passed through, which another website said could be the source of a problem.

Now, I just need to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the computer. It won't come off.
