Its a bitch to remove because of the double sided tape gasket they put in between it and your trunk. I dont recomend removing it unless you are sure. Look around for pics of ppl who have taken them off.

And if you decide to take it off bring it to a bodyshop, preferably mine in Victoria Canada to have the holes welded up and your trunk repainted so it looks like the spoiler was never there.

Or.... you could swap trunks with someone. If you can find a person in your area without a spoiler thats the same color as your car. I dont think there are that many around, most cobalts come with one unless ordered without.

Or

Same Color electrical Tape as car = $5-$7

Total 5-7 $

Cover the holes with pieces of electrical tape the same color as your car just big enought to cover the holes.

I have my spare trunk kicking around which i plan on filling the holes on. I have a few questions first.

Do I have to get it welded? Is there not another way to do it?

Also when you guys say weld your talking bout just tacking on a peice on the underside of the trunk where the holes used to be then fill them with body filler on the side thats showing, correct?

I have access to a welder and a painter is why i am asking and curious about doing this.

thanks for your time

Ryan

i dont have any pics but i bought some body panel clips from autozone and painted them silver. sure it doesnt look as good as having the holes filled and painted but it is a much less permanent and way less expensive.

hmm what about bolt cap, put bolts under and through the holes, and place something like a valve stem cap, but a chrome one over the bolts? would look kinda neat I think.
Just a thought

Honestly, I just put some tape over the top of the holes ... siliconed from the bottom then removed the tape once the silicon dried and it created a relatively smooth 'plug', I then used some factory touch up paint and put it on top of the silicone just to get it close to the same color ....

Looked decent enough until I could get the spoiler sold.

A few weeks later, I sold the spoiler for right around $330 shipped, then went to the Chevy dealership and had the holes fixed right (welded), and had the trunk repainted for $280

Note : these results are not typical as the cost of used SS/SC wings have significantly gone down since then......

Yes yes, my dealership rocks!!

i dont undersatnd how its going to lead to rusting, but how is it half ass? i want something thats not permanent because i know if i ever get rid of the car, whomever gets it will probably want the wing... sure the plugs dont look too great but it is a lot better than having a park bench on your trunk.

i say its half assed, because tape is whats protecting your inside trunk from the elements. and plugs, well rain could still get under these and cause the edge to rust

and depending on where you live, it could possibly help a thief gain easier access to your trunk ( never tried so im not too sure about this one)

good points but i used silicone to apply my plugs just for the fact that water could still get in, and my car is parked in the garage every night so im not to worried about them. its a convienient option for someone that doesnt want to pay $500 or cant find someone to trade w/.

it looks cool with black, and i think would with any other color

just a thin rubber washer for on top so it doesnt make the bolt head look to high
