ok, here is the deal:
i was driving on a road that the city had just scraped for repaving. the spot where the manholes are is higher than the rest of the road. maybe 4 to 6 inches higher. i was driving at night and i hit one of them with my resonator. it put a dent in it and now i have an exhuast leak comming from it. is there anyway that i can get the city to pay for this? i know people have gotten the city to pay for dented rims and potholes before. just let me know, i need to get action soon. thanks all.

They should pay if they didnt put a reflector on it, take a picture of what you hit....during the day to show how big it is, then at night to show how it cant be seen, then of how fucked ur car is.
ok, i went and took pictures of the hole. ill post pics in a minute. i was taking pictures and then a mustang hit the spot. he pulled over and i spoke to him about it. then i was leaving and a maxima hit it. pretty gay.
Just need to grab a local lawyer. Some cities will pay for damage like that and others fight it like hell and never pay anyone. A lawyer will tell you whether you have a chance to collect or not.
Depends on local and state laws.

Exactly! You'd be surprised how much they make! Plus on certain contracts, they get a huge bonus if they finish early too!
I tried getting money out of the city a couple years ago for my old car when there was a tire left in the road for 2 days that I hit. destroyed the entire front axle, and suspension in my intrepid. 3500 in damage plus a 14 day car rental. they said it was my fault for not swerving and that they were not liable if it wasnt reported to them that there was debris in teh road ahead of time
Like OrangeBalt and I have said, unfortunately cities don't just roll over and pay for these things. Hopefully he is talking with a lawyer today to find out what his chances are.
Whatever signs are there make a big difference too. If there are construction zone or bump signs that gives the city another reason not to pay.
Check with your car insurance, I bet they'll pay to fix it.
Just my 2 cents, your reality may differ.
