Idle Rev limiter!?

Hey guys, I just noticed something very weird on my Cobalt (2.2 with AOD). When I am in park or neutral, I cannot rev the motor past 4,000 rpms! Is this normal!?

All.........the.........way. lol No, I don't. I was getting some smoke, and was making sure it was not coolant, so I rev'ed it up high and noticed the motor sound like a damn blow of valve! It freaked me out, but when I put in in drive, it was fine.

It's nothing new. My old 98 Monte Carlo wouldn't rev much more than 3500 in park if I remember properly.

It's cause you bought the wrong transmission My dad's Cutlass did that too in park but not neutral.

Neutral rev limiter. It's what some of us like to adjust and use as our launch control lol.

Hey don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Cobalt, but this car as taught me 2 things: 1. NO MORE automatics and 2. Never buy the base model. My Cobalt is my DD, and it works great. It just trough me off is all. My fun car is a 5.0 Fox Body (T5 manual transmission), so I get my kicks with that. The Cobalt is the one I depend on, so I just was double checking. Thanks guys!
