Basically.
Is it realistic for the average Cobalt owner? No.
The guys who are fitting V8s in 4 cylinder engine bays like the Cobalts/Cavaliers are typically heavily invested and have alot of customization work put into it. Also, most of them convert to RWD as well. You could use a Northstar engine since it's FWD...but like said, not realistic for the average economy car owner.
Basically, if you have to ask if it can be done, you probably aren't ready for a project like it or have the cash to fund it.
Not at all being rude but just honest.
Also note, the Solstice Engine bay is larger than yours and already RWD

yes it would... will probably end up costing about 15,000 if you do the work yourself, which i'm guessing you're not ready to do... it could be done, but i would plan to invest a good 20,000 and have your car off the road for a while...
possible, yes. realistic, not really

Yeah, it seems to me that the biggest problem is that your engine is facing the wrong way and the car wasn't made to have the tranny and driveshaft going to the back. So there would have to be tons and tons of body and suspension work just to get it done. And there is a big difference between getting it done and actually making it work on the road or track. It would be such a huge pain in the ass that it would be much easier to start with a solstice or something that already has RWD. Their swap was actually really straight forward and they didn't have to do anything drastic like cut up the chassis or body. For you this would not be the case. Sorry to be a pessimist but that's just my opinion.
PS-It must be nice being able to work with GMPP since they can design everything and pick up the bill. Those bastards.

checked for prices, http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...Product_ID=930 puts the ls7 at 13k with a normal list of 17.5k. the kugel components kit for a focus costs 5,500 for no tranny, driveshaft or motor. they figure itll cost 20,000 to swap a focus over so about the same for us + the big money for the ls7 and t56. they say 100-150 hours of labor. and focus kit uses a basic 302 and a t5. i was slightly off on my inital guess. id figure 30k for a balt to be switched over with the ls7-t56
