Honestly, who cares about what other people perceive this car to be? It's all about the pilot, not the ride. If you require recognition based on your possessions, you need a reality check.

If they want to hate the ride, then do so. But don't come crying like a sissy when my turbo, 4 door rental car that is whisper quiet blows your doors off.

respect is earned enver given. get your friends to stop street racing to show momma how much they like to go fast. if anyone could accomplish something at a track where the times matter then you might see some respect. but when some ******* in a cobalt blazes by you at 140 on the hwy you tend to think everyone who drives one is a ****.

 

i had to do this the other day...

driving home from a car meet, a bronze mustang gt (2000's year 4.6) pulls up near me revving and driving eradically.

all i knew was he had exhaust done to it from the noise. he's givin me dirty looks (like baby baby do me now looks jk ) so we catch a red light. we're both pokerfacing it not saying ****. light goes green and i was waiting for him to take off so we both pretty much do a full launch race. well i take him by a car by the time i was going 50 so i slow down.

he catches back up staying in 2nd gear. i go back into 2nd and wait for him to hit it (40mph) he hits it, i hit it, pass him pretty quick, let off by 70-80 mph.

i had to pull back to him and ask "how does that make you feel?" "not so good!" he says -he had intake exhaust and gearwork done.

i'm stg 2 with intake header & downpipe essentially

 

Point still stands on times and aftermarket.
Even on the Neon's Real tune has 15 cars listed in the 9-10's. More than that in the 11's. Dcr has cars as fast as 7's , etc . They aren't the only companies either, even Modern has a track Srt-4. So many individuals, then the group that has power that doesn't go to the strip like you mentioned. IDK about Evo's but I'd think they have even more than that going on.

Actualy there are street legal 9 sec ones. Specifically DCR has a street 9 car that was made to run 9's in full street trim. Even has PS and AC.

Not saying Cobalt's are bad cars, great for a DD. Though one reason I sold mine is the support just isn't there for them.

I get respect cuz I don't race

 

I could see how all this talk about cars doing 1/4 mile in 9-10 seconds could make you feel less about the car, but how many daily drivers are in the 12's even 11's for turbo cars on slicks and reaching 400+ hp. But that is not everything the car is about.

I am very happy with this car cause I knew I wouldnt really be racing it and would have fun modding it. When I went to find my car I told about 7 car salesmen what i wanted. It had to be zippy, fun to drive through town, and all I wanted was a manual transmission. The lack of just those few things in my town was rediculous. I drove 3+ hours to Lewisville TX to pick up my car.

I got a good deal on a Hahn Stage 5 and the car will do 12's and is faster then a very modified Subaru STI my freind has at the AF base. I told him I had a 20G and he was suprised people were putting them on a Chevy. His car is only at 300 ish hp on a 16G . With enough money you can make any car fast, so I am not sure why there was any disrespect. The only time I got a funny look was when I first drove it to work. I got a lot of flak over the wing. I took it off within the first month and had body work done to fix the holes and the trunk lock shaved. It has gotten a lot of love since then. I really dont plan to go greater than 400. I am just very happy with the way the car is.

Not going to lie, there is a guy with a window banner on his mustang that says, "wanna play". I cant wait to pull on him.
