Name that weird part and what it's for ?

I have an 09 SS/TC. And its obviously the middle of yet another great Canadian winter. In the last three weeks alone we have got the btter part or 85cm. Thats about 33" for our American friends. With another 30+cm coming this weekend. So long story short I was cleaning all the snow out from around the inside of the wheel wells on the front of the car. And there is some sort of a black box at the top of the wheel well by the strut almost. That has a rubber trap door on it. Thats the best I can do for a description. ;-) I am wondering if anyone knows what it is for ? And if it matters too much if it is there or not for a few weeks ? I ended up breaking it off. And I really don't know what it would be for. Other then it just being a water drain for something further up top oof the car ? The piece is intact. Except it has a broken clip on the front of it. I was thinking if it isn't that big of a deal that it isn't there for a month or so. I will silicone it back on in the spring. Any thoughts as to what it is ? And if it matters if it is missing for a bit ? And sorry , no picture of said wierd part. If you have evr noticed it. You know what im talking about . I hope .

Thanks

It's allows air our of the cabin when you close the doors so you don't blow out a window, the rubber flap keeps stuff out. You may get snow/water inside without it
A customer of ours broke hers off recently, I believe it was about 5 bucks for a new one

That is wierd. I wonder if it will do much harm if i leave it out till spring. And to be totally honest. It was 100% full of snow and ice to begin with when i picked it up off the ground. There was no way ANY air was coming out of it before. But after i broke it off it would. Cause it was then open again. And besides. I still have the passanger side on intact. 😉 i will deffinitly just silicone it back in place in a month or so when the spring starts.

I always thought air escaped out the sunroof..... isnt that why it pops up when you slam the door?

Air is supposed to escape in a few places but probably not the sunroof or you would have problems with water leaking in, vents are usually behind fenders and quarter panels and in this case, the wheel well.
Volkswagen made a car way back that had no vents, and they were constantly blowing windows out.. bet that car would float pretty good too :P

And quicksilver just keep an eye on your carpet to see if much water gets in?

When I slam my truck doors it pops / hurts my ears.
Lol unrelated, doesn't bother me all that much. I usually crack a window and problem solved.
If that's your problem

So i took the part to my local chevy dealer. Only because i happened to be working very close to it that day and still had the part in my car. They said it is deffinitly a drain for the cowl by the window wipers. So nothing too major. It only cost $7 . But im just going to glue the oldnone back on in a month os so once the spring hits. They said really. It doesnt matter if it is there or not really.
