That whole deal isn't necessary with the Cobalt though, which is a brand new model. They might give the Cobalt a freshening in 07, but it would include things like revised facias, new headlight lenses, interior upgrades, ect. The kind of changes that make if a better overall vehicle, not just making changes to trick people into thinking its a new car
07 should be the year the SS/SC loses the SC part , for a turbo . Hopefully the Turbocharged SS will not get too much pricier . I really really dont want to see a $27-28K SS . The Opel Astra becoming the new Saturn coupe ( that is supposed to happen for 2007 ) is just nothing but GREAT news for the Cobalt . I would be truely happy with just some thin spoke 18's ( with the same gunmetalish finish) , a more contemporary headlight design and better interior materials , and of course the turbo ecotec with a 6 speed .
None of the car magazines future sections say anything about platform changes or powertrain changes to the Cobalt line through 2009. THe only thing they mention is a "freshening" in 2008, likely refering to a change in bodywork, not powertrain or chassis.
There is no way GM would redo a 2 year-old car. You guys need to think about that logically. It would cost GM untold amounts of money to change an already great car! There will still be a top of the line 205HP 2.0L supercharged ECOTEC under the hood of Cobalt's for several more years.
Plus the HHR is on the same platform, and a version in 2007 will use the 205HP 2.0L ECOTEC supercharged engine. This is not a temporary engine. It is here to stay! There will for sure (100% certainty) be no mechanical changes to the top of the line Cobalt SS Supercharged next year (2007). I highly doubt any turbo will ever be in this car in FWD form. Maybe AWD, but thats a few years away at best!
Don't believe me, read here! These guys are usually always right:

Who ever started this silly turbo rumor has no idea of what they are talking about. The only way the 250 HP 2.2L Turbo from the 2007/2008 Solstice/Sky would make it into this car is if it is in an AWD Cobalt, which is only BEING CONSIDERED FOR PRODUCTION at this time!!!!!
