does anyone know if its possible to fit an 8" wide muffler (such as a magnaflow 5x8") resonator in the exhaust tunnel in place of the resonator?

so a little more info, ive got a giant magnaflow 6" round x 33" long magnaflow muffler in place of my resonator, combined with a normal magnaflow muffler out back and a high flow cat, it sounds pretty decent. the downside to this setup is it hangs a little low, and being lowered the muffler/resonator scrapes the larger speed bumps and eventually starts to rattle. in the last 8 or so years with this exhaust setup ive replaced 2 of these resonators already, and the one thats on the car is rattling again. when i got my exhaust setup (it was from clear image waaaaay back) it had a 4" resonator on it and it was too loud and a little raspy, going with the monster resonator really made the car sound good. id like to put something a little smaller on the car so it wont scrape, but i dont want to sacrifice sound, id rather have to put another resonator on in 2 years than have too loud of an exhaust. this is where my idea of a 5x8" magnaflow muffler came in, they make one thats 30" long. i think it would sound good, it all hinges on if it will fit up into our tunnel, ive never measured it out, nor have i seen anyone thats done anything similar. im not real concerned if i have to take the heat shield out of the tunnel, ive got some real good stick on stuff (DEI tunnel shield) i can use in its place.

any thoughts? or anyone have their car in the garage on jack stands want to measure the width of the tunnel for me? its freezing cold where i am and i dont have room to get the car on the hoist at my shop to measure it.

 

If I get around to it I will have mine up in the air again and I will get some measurements for you if someone hasn't already. Even if it fits I think the main concern would be how much movement there is in the exhaust system and if it will make contact in a hard corner. I've had a gopro under my car during autocross and the exhaust system moves around a lot.
