like i said before, you're not going to get your 4 cylinder cobalt to sound like a v8 mustang vette camaro chevelle pinto vega whatever. its not going to happen

Thanks for the link, and good posts.

As someone said earlier, our cars have their own unique sound, and thats what I am going for. The American style car sound is what I like, so those are the qualities I would like to exemplify with a good exhaust setup on this car.

I've heard good stuff 'bout Magnaflow, it is just a little more expensive. I am giving this one a try cause it seems like such a good deal.

When the time comes let us all know how it goes!

i have magnaflow (cat and muffler, soon resonator) and love it. it sounds decent for 4-banger but by no means does it sound like muscle. i think a custom magnaflow setup is the way to go, but header and dp have a lot to do with the tone also. (i had a catless dp on for a while and it was raspy as hell, then i got the cat welded on and it sounded like sex)

Magnaflow here, and I did a ton of listening to sound clips and vids/research before getting mine. Magnaflow was my choice and I don't regret it at all. It's one of the deeper cat-backs, audible when you're stepping on it, but at idle is a deep mellow aggressive tone. Not loud, but obviously not stock when you hear it either.

did you find the magnaflow drowned out your engine noise at all? i hate when mufflers are louder than the engine...

the exhaust is much louder than the engine, but i think any exhaust other than stock will cause that on our cars

well it obviously takes very little to make you doubt yourself if you're worried someone thinks your car sounds "ricey"

I've always been of the opinion that anything that smells like a performance mod, and is not specifically necessary to make your car go faster, or that actually hurts performance, is rice. Disregarding visual mods for a moment, I consider a 4 inch exhaust on a car that can't handle the larger pipes as rice. Long as you can put up with the sound, it's matched properly to the car, and it's tastefully done (i.e. it looks like it belongs there), it's cool in my book.

Me personally, I've been looking for ways to get a performance exhaust and quiet it down without losing power (and I know precisely dick about resonators, glasspacks and all that mumbo-jumbo that gets thrown around in exhaust threads). I don't like to advertise that I've got a bit of pep under the hood, makes getting from A to B easier without having every hopped-up car in a college town trying to race me.
