Saab 9-3 2.0T vs. LNF/LSJ..??
Hey guys,
So, at my work today (I'm a valet), I had to jump start a Saab 9-3. I've always known they had the 2.0T motor in them, and were pretty quick.. But I never knew they looked just like an LSJ.. lol.. It looks like an LSJ motor with the LNF turbo tubing.. So it got me thinking.. How are these motors similar and/or different..? Saab obviously was with GM then, so it makes sense.. I've always really liked them, and would certainly buy one if given the chance.. But I was wondering this today.. Likewise, can you use any of the LNF/LSJ performance bits on the Saab motor if it IS similar..?
Thanks!

im pretty sure it is a trubo lsj man. hence why the lsj should still be around
more so, anyone who has ever taking off the coil pack cover on the lsj's should notice saab stamped on the bottom of the plate

haha Nice. So, let's just say I can source a 9-3 2.0T motor for a reasonable price.. I can make one hell of a hybrid out of it? Or should I say, out of my 2.4.. Because if it's a turbo LSJ, that'd seem to kill two birds with one stone in terms of upgrading.. lol. I don't know what kinda power or psi they push, but they're pretty damn quick..
the low pressure version is 175hp, the high pressure is 210hp. it is the same engine as an lsj. same pistons, same head, same compression, ect. the only real difference is the cams, intake manifold and the fact it has a turbo hanging off it.

Word. Well it seems like you can source a long block for under a grand. A tiny bit cheaper than the LSJ. But that comes sans turbo and everything. So that part doesn't help much. However, can you use any of the parts off that motor for a turbo/supercharge 2.4 build? I'd assume it'd be a little easier/cheaper to buy parts from those, especially if you're going turbo, instead of the LSJ.. More common..
its another ecotec. all ecotecs look the same (more or less). its RPO is LK9 btw, and im pretty certain the LSJ is a supercharged version of the LK9, rather than the other way around, since the LK9 was out first
to answer the above question, theres a BUNCH of threads on using the LK9 intake manifold as a cheaper alternative to hahns turbo intake manifold. i know a few people use the turbo manifold too, but idk as much about that

I know this is an old thread, but i want to know if i can use this engine on my lsj car. My motor blew up and im looking for a cheaper solution instead of b uying a $5000 new lsj motor. I can hook up with a lsj head. In case that changes. Please help.
ive seen lsj motors go regularly for under 2,000
but if you look at your lsj motor, everything on it says saab
Yes, you can use the LK9 block. AFAIK all non DI (ie LNF) ecotec blocks are interchangeable with their respective displacements (all 2.0's can swap with each other, all 2.2s can swap, etc). Actually, all of the blocks, regardless of displacement, should be interchangeable. The only difference in the lower end that actually matters in these motors is the reluctor wheels, but thats on the rotating assembly, not the block itself.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that, but as for the original question, yes, the LK9 and LSJ blocks should be identical..I'm 95% certain of that.
edit: oh and new motors are $3,100, not $5k, and you can buy a used LSJ pretty cheaply off ebay im sure.
