Question SRT-4 Owner

Hey guys,

I drive a 2004 Dodge Electric Blue SRT-4. I am just wondering what is the max horsepower you can get at the wheel with the Cobalts current upgrades. I think your Stage kits are an amazing increase of power for an amazing price, but all I saw was Stage 2 in my short search. What are the top dollar mods for your cars, and what kind of numbers can you put out at the dyno, and track? This is by no means a flame nor will you ever see me flame. I think the Cobalt SS is a great car. I am actually considering getting rid of my SRT-4 considering its comming up on 30,000 miles. I wouldnt mind having a Black Cobalt SS at all! If you could tell me about Reliability also I would be interested to hear what your .02 cents is.

Thanks for the info guys

Run a quick search on INTENSE, they have five different stage kits availible. Stage 5 is approx. 275 whp!

Intense makes stage kits up to stage 5. Check this thread out. BTW, get the Cobalt ss/sc!

Wow 19 PSI on a supercharger thats impressive. . . .

So about how much would a Stage 5 cost, and would it void the Warranty? Also what would a Stage 5 run the 1/4 mile in?

Welcome to the site.

$1000 bux for stage 5, yes it would void the warranty, if you tack on some slicks, low low 13's possibly high 12's if you power shift. I love srt4's. They are amazing cars and have so much potential, I don't care what anyone says.

Yes, www.intense-racing.com has pictures and guesstimated gains of each kit. Fast06SS runs 12.8's @110mph consistantly, and his power mods are:

Tuning
2.5" Supercharger Pulley
no cat
Corsa Touring Cat-back

Stock airbox, intake, completely stock motor, basically, everything else stock-BUT he does have the proper supportive mods and a couple suspension and drivetrain mods/dr's to run everything properly. The potential is definitely there. Welcome to the site.

That's awesome. I run a 13.869 @ 101.8 MPH with my current mods which isnt much. If I could dump 1000 bucks into a car and be running 12's on Drag Radials I would definitely go for it.

Ok about the Warranty . . . I could always put the car back to stock when theres a problem correct?

Also if I purchased a Stage 5 what else would I need to accompany the power? Such as an Exhaust and so on?

How does the stock tranny hold the power? I know the SRT-4 can hold around 500 WHP stock. Is the Cobalts just as good?

Exhaust mods would be great. A header and getting rid of the cat (bug restriction) or atleast getting a highflow cat and then a cat-back would produce great gains! Then you could do an intake and so forth.

Other than the stock clutch, everything else is plenty strong.

Every little bit helps at that point for power gains, but really your biggest concern after state 5 is getting the power you already have to the ground. Torque brace, motor/tranny mounts, CAB...any or all of the above or you'll just wheel-hop until your axle or drive shaft snaps like a twig.

I dont need a Cat-Back where I live so that's no problem. Im mostly worried about the transmission. Would I need to buy Motor, and Transmission mounts to hold that kind of power?

The problem you'll find with the stage 5 from intense is it's only $1000 if you send them back some of your stock parts (i.e. stock supercharger housing, stock supercharger snout, and the stock PCM). So the ability to be able to put it back to stock for warranty claims would cost you another 900 on top of the 1000 to keep your stock parts.

Thats awesome . . . So basically I would need Stage 5, 3" O 2 Housing Pipe, 3" Downpipe, 3" Exhaust, Motor Mounts, Transmission mounts, Cold Air Intake, and Maybe Traction Bars if they make them for the Cobalt SS.

Edit- How far off am I? lol!

Bear in mind that the Cobalt motor isnt as beefy from the factory as the SRT is, and neither is the clutch as mentioned. You need to replace pistons if you want to pass 300hp safely, valve springs for a higher redline than 7k, and i've heard the stock head doesnt flow well past the 300hp point either. It's possible the stock axles could have issues, but not fully proven yet.

But if youre content to put down 275fwhp and not want more, then the Cobalt is a winner.
