I agree partly with that. It usually grabs fine for me if done right, but I still would say there is 5% of the time where 2nd doesn't grab right at high rpm. It is moving fast enough and random enough to not be sure why it happened. That still makes the clutch 95% working great for me after 20k miles though. I really have no complaints.

I have an issue right now around 4.5k+RPM, but that is also random. I haven't been able to pinpoint slipping yet. I think it is just the tires losing traction since they are getting worn down and the road surfaces at those times are not the best. Again, that still doesn't happen often enough to complain. My clutch grabs really firmly over 95% of the time. I don't think you could ask for much more.

I don't even have issues if I stay on the throttle. Just have to make it grab harder and drop it quick. It strains other parts, but the clutch holds up fine. Also, I usually take off around 2-3k rpm; again, engaging it quickly and firmly works just fine.. tires might spin a little, but clutch holds up fine. People just need to learn not the ride the clutch period.

1. when driving hard, make sure the clutch is fully engaged before hammering the throttle.
2. IMO, you can shift below 3k, just rev match the shifts and let the clutch out before touching the throttle.
3. on takeoff, try to keep it below 1k rpm. don't rev it up high and ride it just so the takeoff is smoother. that overheats it and really pisses it off.
4. in reverse, don't touch the throttle at all, unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. My technique is no gas, clutch out a little until the car starts to move, then back in. repeat if necessary.
5. DO NOT roast the tires in 1st and expect to grab 2nd with no slippage. It's not going to happen. Your tires are spinning really fast, but the car's actual speed is not. So, this would be like driving at 5mph, redlining the car, and dumping the clutch in 2nd. Catch my drift?
6. Anything else???

As for my SS S/C, 9000 miles, stock clutch, zero slippage. I must be doing something right.
If it wasn't directed at anomalous then who? Me? If so, can't you see that i was trying to tell him to shift at higher rpms... Read before you write

the simple fact is....the GREAT majority of cobalt owners having success with thier clutchs....obviously just cant drive.

its only the people burning their clutch off that really know how to drive.

obviously

I have 60k+ miles on my stock clutch and I can still burn all of 2nd, is that saying that the stock clutch sucks?

yup.
you have no idea how to drive.
if you did, your clutch would obviously be burnt off.

lol

You have to adapt to the car, you can't expect the car to change for you.

i dont ' know if thats so accurate maybe below 2 1/2k, wouldn't the vibarations associated with low rpm takeoff do more harm than gud?

oh yea theres a forum about clutch slip. i guess some didn't read it; also quotes stock clutch more than capable of handling 300hp, which i believe fully. there was a guy not to long ago whos stock clutch was grabbing so well in fact, it broke in half but he had 300 whp ithink. amazing nonethe less most guys pop trannys in third with that kinda power.

The getrag F35... which is the tranny in the SS/SC can handle 285ft/lbs of torque so 300hp sounds about right... the clutch doesn't suck on these cars... you just gotta get use to it

Will it? Never heard of that happening. I always hover around 1krpm on takeoff.

as long as your staying below 1500 during your regular takeoff, and get out of the clutch as soon as possible, you will be fine.

Thanks for all your advice and help. Didnt mean to start a riot on clutches...I shouldnt have said the stock clutch sucks but for me, this clutch is random sometimes it works great no prob then out of nowhere it slips on me so im not sure really. Im sure most of it is me but it just seems like it would do it ALL the time in the same situations if it were all driving. Thanks for all your help i will try some new things though.

ok after driving today, I definetly agree the clutch works a lot better at high RPMs. I dont remember who all said that but your absolutely right. I always have shifted at low RPMs for economy reasons but this car doesnt like that too much. So that at least worked thanks guys. -Dustin
