UPDATE:

I'm definately going to do the SS/NA. I took a second drive. I like the power curve on the 2.04 better than the supercharged 2.0. I think there is enough zap there to keep me interested.

THE DEAL: The dealer said my 2004 Tiburon GT/SE plus $5,200 for a SS Coupe with Leather and a few other options that retails for $20,000. Too steep for me. My counter offer was my Tiburon (9,000 miles) plus $3,000 for a SS that retails for about $19,000. To be honest I was starting to cool on the idea, but I saw the 06 in blue - and it was just beautiful. That blue color won me over.

The sales manager is calling around to see if he can get a few more hundred dollars for the Tiburon. I may not know what their counter-offer is until tommorrow.
=================================================
UPDATE: 8:30 pm Wed. nite... The salesman called me back. They will go an additionial $1,000 for the Tiburon. So for the SS that retailed for about $20,000 - its my Tiburon plus $4,200. (So basicially they are covering my debt on the Tiburon, and knocking $1,000 off the retail price.) Also, they are throwing in free car washes. What do you think? I told them I would let them know for sure tommorrow, Thursday.

BTW - Thanks for all the replies guys.

- W

Good job on buying an American car....and then if you're ever saying your car name really fast...no one will confuse it with a Honda (hyundai)....

Honestly - I wish I could have both cars. I feel a little guilty trading the Tiburon, cause its been a good car - I mean there is nothing wrong with it. Its harder edged. The Cobalt will be a more user friendly car.

If I want that SS I better had commit before the weekend.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks,

- W

UPDATE: I gave down payment on the Blue SS, 5 speed. Every option except auto trans. (I wanted manual trans.)

I will probably pick up the car after I get my finance check (Sat or Monday).

chevy came out with three seperate platforms for a reason, a s/c platform (2.0), a turbo platform (2.2), and of couse an N/A platform (2.4). comming from an N/A car yourself, if you want to go with full N/A mods then go with the 2.4 cause thats what its made for. the 2.2 is made for a turbo, its obvious from the GM ecotec build book. IMO, stick with a 2.4 or a 2.0, they would give a lot of power across the powerband, unlike a turbo 2.2, turbos take longer to spool up and give power, and they also have turbo lag which you would hate, i like being able to step on the gas at any rpm and feel something, not hit the gas at 2 grand and not feel **** until i hit like 3.5 and then take off outta nowhere. but like i said thats just my opinion.

Cobss,

The thing that most tuners don't talk about is the shape of the power curve. I had an Audi A4 w/ the 4 cyl turbo. I had that tweaked to over 200 hp - but it still was a top end engine, with a very flat power curve. It did not FEEL that fast. The Tiburon is very torque, and feels very fast - espeacially off the line. The 2.4 has decent torque and FEELS as least as fast to me at the 2.0 SC. You can tweak all you like, but you are not going to change the basic character of the powerplant. That said, I will be ordering my AEM CAI this weekend.
