EVERY single kid at my HS that had cars like that, wrecked them by their senior year. Camaro SS, Z28, C4 Vette, Trans Am, and a RT Dakota. pretty sad...

me and my dad share a 1994 c4 corvette and im only 17. then again i Dont street race with it, i only autocross it at road america and use it to pick up chicks. It works, but im a responsible kid honestly, i may be a little faster then the average duck, but i dont drive stupid, thats what gets kids killed.

My friend's dad bought a z06 and lets him drive it whenever he wants, but hes very responsible and doesn't race or act stupid. He actually very rarely takes it out, he said it scares the sh*t out of him, lol. I just don't believe it should be the high schoolers actual car... but hey I don't agree with a lot of things.

i would be the same way. a car with that much power is, i can admit it, wayyy too much power for me, i literally probably couldn't handle it. i was scared shitless when our family friend who got an 07 zo6 offered to let me drive once.

well if my parents were that rich, i would sell the vette, buy the cobalt i already own lol and then invest the other fortyfive thousand.

seriously though his parents are just irresponsible. however mine had me drive my mom's 98 trans am for a year (350hp), but thats how i got my cobalt, because i showed them i was responsible with that many horses under my foot (kept my record clean) which i thought was a pretty good deal haha. but don't ever think that i take that for granted just because i didn't pay for my own car. I had to work for it in other ways like i've had a 4.0 all through high school which isn't easy when your taking calculus, AP psych, and chemistry, trust me on this one, among other things too.
anyway i think his parents have made a very bad decision and he'll probably spend the rest of his life living out of mom and dads pocket. and if he ever is on his own that car will be gone so fast as soon as he has to pay for his own insurance. Which i do pay for those wondering, which sucks cause i'm seventeen and its pretty high. It's actually a lot lower than it could be because of good student discount and stuff.

in all honesty i would turn down a corvette if my parents offered one to me... being 17 i feel no need to have a car handed to me that most people work most of their lives to save up to buy one... just not right IMO, and yes i paid 3/4 of my cobalt by saving the last 3 years

I'm sorry but that makes no sense. He gets a car with 400+ HP and his parents are irresponsible yet you get one for a year that is near the same capabilities and it's a whole different story?
Not to mention you even say that you didn't pay for it but had to maintain a 4.0? It's not the same thing no matter how you look at things.

However you do pay for insurance, which is a start.

While i dont nessearily agree in spoiling childern that is hes parents concern. Work hard and then one day go get yourself a C6.

If it's a C6 it does. 405 est. from the factory. C5's had lower HP obviously.

Google my friend.

I've been purchasing my own vehicles since I was 13. I was aloud to drive it around the neighborhood up until I got my license. I would’ve never accepted a car from my parents because they do more than enough for me. By the way, I had a friend in High School wrap himself around a tree with his car during sophomore year.

exactly what I was about to say, I would love my son too much to give him a vette. Its like saying "here son have a box of matches to play with, but be sure not to burn yourself"

i didn't actually get the car, just to and from school whenever my mom didn't need to work or run errands or anything. thats why its a different story, because i rarely had it. probably should have clarified that earlier though. and i know maintaining grades and such isn't the same as working for it, i'm just saying its not like they handed the car to me.

I don't care how wealthy you are, it's SO irresponsible for the parents to give their 17 year old kid a sports car with that kind of power. When I was that age all I wanted to do was be wreckless intentionally and unintentionally.

There have been so many kids who have died in high speed accidents due to these stupid reasons. Not only is he endangering himself but others too.

Giving a kid that kind of toy without earning it or being able to recognize the value of a dollar really ***** up his head for the rest of his life. My father grew up under these conditions and he's been fired from every job he's ever had. You grow up thinking you're better than everyone else. I wouldn't envy these people...they are never satisfied with anything and can never find happiness.

I would never EVER even dream about getting my kids a sports car until they have matured/have acquired adequate driving experience. IMO...

A lot of times people[kids] lie about this stuff just for the ego factor. Pretty sad...

How about owning a real Vette like this one:

LS1
365HP

stop showing that damn thing off! you're making the rest of us look bad with that pretty black car

i'm torn. while i'd love to get handed a 'vette, i think that driving a crappy car thru HS has taught me better driving habits, which i can take with me when i move up a better car (CTS-V, anyone?). a girl at my HS had a: black Trans-Am. wrecked it. parents bought her a red camaro SS. wrecked it. got a new red Trans-Am, which she gave me a ride in one time (i wasn't impressed). she wanted a red one because it 'looked pretty'.

i think it's dumb of parents to give their kids something they can't handle. i see that all too much. if you see a kid in a nice car, you usually will get jealous because you automatically think that mommy and daddy are paying for it (i know i do!). sometimes it's because the parents want to look good to other people too, but then they get a late night visit from the cops saying that their son/daughter wrapped the new car around a tree and is in critical condition at the hospital.

there ARE people out there though that do work very hard for their stuff -- i'm going to be paying for my own SS/SC when i find one i like. but if you work for it, you definately deserve it!

ahhhh that turned into a rant. i'm sorry!!!
