WARNING!!! GM supplier shut down...
Guys this is just a wake up call . GM will prevail and be a little on edge with any newer cars coming ouy. The VOLT will be a hit. Just think driving up to 40miles on elcric alone! hell that means i will have to put a can of heat in there to make gas less watered from lack of use. Yes mistakes have been made. I think this will wake them up. IDK about you guys but gm is heading in the right direction. I love my car, so it has the flaking bezzels, big fn deal! I had a 2004 colorado z71 before this and it was a damn good truck too. Guys all cars of any manufacture will have **** happen to them. The cobalt is one hell of a fine car,PERIOD!
spend frivolously? yes because giving scholarships to colleges is a bad thing.

you think foriegn markets wont fall either. remember gm owns opel, holden, fiat and many others.
found this gem too
GM Powertrain is well-known around the world for its high-quality automatic transmissions. BMW, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce and other companies have all turned to GM at one point or another for technology -- in fact, even Ford recently signed an agreement that would allow them to license a new six-speed automatic transmission from GM for use in future vehicles

It depends on how you look at it. GM has been spiraling out of control due to horrible (for the company) deals made with the unions. If they go bankrupt, they can re-negotiate those union agreements to something a bit more reasonable.
On a whole, a general recession in this country will be a good thing in the long run - it will make us stronger on the other end as unnecessary spending is cut from the large corporations all the way down to us and our household spending. More money will be put into savings accounts instead of buying a new couch, or spent on things that really matter instead of the fluff most Americans have been taking for granted for a long time now. This whole situation has been building for some time, and the longer we put off a recession by useless "stimulation bills" the worse the impending crash will be. Lets let it happen, get it over with, and get back to making America great again. This is a perfect opportunity, lets not waste it.

There are just as many problems with a civic and any other car for that matter. You don't know because you don't drive them. Bitching is just the American way I guess. This site is full of people that should have clearly been running GM because they know there ****
Until your in that seat SHUT YOUR ******* MOUTH. Sorry I know they are just peoples opinions and I guess that is just mine with a bunch of bullshit ranting.
GM no 2 suppliers and paying bills on time
Currently GM only sources a particular part to only ONE supplier (unless it's a global high volume part and then there may be a source overseas). Imagine the tooling costs to have the same part produced by two different suppliers. If and when a supplier does go out of business the jobs are transferred to another supplier and 99.9% of the time, the parts pipeline and the assembly plants that make the vehicles have no idea that there was even a change in the supplier. I know this for a fact because I am currently working with transferring parts from two recently bankrupt suppliers.
As far as owing suppliers money, this is also completely untrue. GM has, even during this Financial Market meltdown caused by greedy A-Holes on Wall Street, always paid their bills on time. We have several methods to punish a supplier for not supplying parts up to and including transferring business.
As bad as it is, there are still many suppliers doing very well and willing to take on new work. Any lack of parts at a dealer is simply caused by the dealer.
If the government can't figure out a way to free up credit and get money in people's pockets to go out and buy things (houses, cars, etc., etc.) then everyone should be afraid... very afraid...
Now business loans are a different story - thats gonna cause some serious pain.
this is gay but i think its true cause back in oct a deer ran out and hit the side of my car while i was driving and it took till dec till they were able to find me all new parts for my cobalt, worse 2 months ever : (

I want a car from a company who I know will always have the parts I need.
