so it is the battery, however i hooked up a volt meter to see if the alt was overcharging... no def perfect charging. with the car off it was a LITTTLE low on voltage but not enough to go out and buy a new one. now im just wondering what gives? the battery is running hotter than hell def. no leaking. the air valve or w.e. that is hooked up to it keeps falling out with the slightest movement

not exactly, car bats even though not directly advertised as so are "water resistant" meaning you can get them wet just not drench them. the terminals are ontop of the bat and far away from each other.

Well, the smell is coming from the breakdown of the sulfuric acid in your battery, and the production of hydrogen sulfide (the definitive rotten egg smell).

That little "vacuum line" is the battery's out-gassing line. The egg gas is supposed to go through that tube and vent to the outside. If your tube is falling off, then the egg gas will build up in the space around the battery - your trunk.

Get the tube back on there, and do something to get it to stay there, and you should be fine in no time.

If it still smells after the tube is solid, then you may have a crack in that line.

Alternately, replace battery with a sealed battery. Once they are put together, they never need water, they never out-gas, and in general are maintenance-free.

(I learned all of the above from my motorcycle, including swapping the battery out for a sealed one, which works perfectly)
