6.5 qts is def too much. 6 qts in my car is between add a qt and the max fill level. 6.25 (which I measure out exactly) brings it right to the max fill line perfectly. I found a gm service bulletin on the fill amount back in the day, and it said 6.25 qts for the LSJ (even though the owners manual claims 6 qts). I will have to see if I can find it.
Always remember to check the oil when WARM! Not cold like you would on a lawnmower. Also make sure you're on a flat surface... By doing this 6 quarts will be right around the full mark.

I put in 6, but yeah I do remember that bulletin. AllData also says something like 6.25.

This is on my perfectly level garage floor. 6 qts is and has always been just shy of the full mark.
6.25 qts brings it spot on.
I pour 6 qts in, start her up let the oil cycle through and get warm. Let it sit for a min or so in order for the oil to drain back down in the pan.
and add the extra 1/4 qt.
I check it periodically throughout the change interval of the oil and its always perfectly full.

camshafts intake cam upgraded fuel lobe
Coolant heater hoses
Turbo oil line
washed it
took off my mpx exhaust running open down pipe put a 3 in converter and have a 3" pipe pointing down
retuned =] happy cobalt

Walked a douchebag in a shiny new Acura somethin or other, still with his temp tags on. Thought he wanted to race me at 7 this morning.

Installed fire extinguisher.
Installed carbon fiber sunroof plug.
Finished fabbing up and mounting custom front grills.
Cleaned intake / throttle body.
Nut and bolted entire car.
Changed inner and outer tierods.
Finished mounting 2 way radio system for my helmet.
Goes tomorrow for corner balance and setup...
Racing at Fontana Speedway Saturday and Sunday.
