what is this thing. I tried searching to figure out what it is. Some pictures I find they're connected to the battery. In this picture it is not connected and its not connected in my car either. I'm talking about the grey tube thing right near the battery.

it won't hurt anything... my new battery doesn't even have a vent for this tube. The only thing is you might have a hole in the bottom of your trunk where its drains to

i noticed it earlier today and didn't know what it was, so I just left it. I'm at work and made a post to figure out what it was. A nice member (obviously not you) answered my question. I'm still at work so I can't put it back on yet, and I just wanted to know if it did any harm because I have no idea how long its been off.

GM = generic motors... they make the same part and put it in everything but my point is if a new battery doesn't have a breather port then it's not used. leave it in or take it out either way you have an open hole now FYI Do you really think they spent 1$ on every vent tube lol think about the hundreds of thousands they would have wasted then LOL google uses 30+ 4 doors for fleet cars to take google earth photos

somehow the plastic piece coming off of the battery connected to the tube broke on mine. probably when i was screwing around back there with my subwoofers. should i attempt to glue it back together or just screw it and leave it broken?

Ii know this an old thread but i didn't wanna make one. Do my car didn't wasn't to come on yesterday so i checked the battery since it had bad battery symptoms. The ground write was dirty so i cleaned it. I noticed the breather tube is broken and can't hook up to the battery. Is this what mightbe causing my car to crank but not start or crank allot before starting?

no that tube is only a vent tube. it is there for a reason, when a battery is charging it spits out fumes. this tube routes the fumes outside so you dont inhale them when you are driving.
