Why so cheap?

I'm trying to figure out why this dealership is selling this cobalt for so cheap..

It is a:

2007 SS S/C
14,800 miles
Stage 2
Magnaflow
Intake
Tire upgrade
Shaved emblems
and....Nitrous!!

All for $15,150

What!?! Why so cheap. My guess was it was autocross, but even then, why nitrous?

Or is it the high mileage?

Either way, it seems like an awesome price. I was unable to drive it, since the dealership is closed. I am going to check it out tomorrow, because I really want an 07, and there are so many goodies already on it.

What do you guys think? Is it just a stupid dealership, or could the car be ragged out in a way I couldnt tell?

Any ideas?

well like some dealerships think modding a car lowers the value of it. So that could be the case.

Otherwise its had a lot of problems and the guy traded it in for something else

thats what i would think, because it is modded. think about it, it is a brand new vehicle almost, but even still the customer is taking a risk because of all the aftermarket product on it. and risk to the customer means less money for the dealer

yeahi think he hit it on the head. Usually dealers look at a modded car and assume the owner has drove it pretty hard, leading to the dealer selling for cheaper. just get the car with a warranty and u should be alright.

I do not think the warrenty will cover the after market parts on the car...the owner should of sold it out right before selling it to a dealership, they probably didn't give him anything for it! I would see if it has been wrecked!

working for chevy as a salesman for awhile, you tend to learn the tricks of the trade.

i knew a guy who had nos, turbo, hood, exhaust, etc....was about 65yrs old on his 06 GTO.....and he had it for car shows....tires still brand new...carfax says its never been worked on, other than new vehicle inspection..and the occasional oil change.

dealership took that into consideration and offered him sticker price for it...then we obviously marked it up even further.

i think we offered him 33 for it....when he said other dealerships only offered him 21...

Mods = Bad in dealerships eyes and 98 times out of 100 will lower the value of the car....because it has less resale value to say someone in theire mid 40's who dont care for that sorta thing.

Well another reason is the nitrous... "NO WARRANTY!"

The reason is due to the fact that the powertrain warranty has been compromised. Although I bought my 06 Cobalts SS/SC with 5000 miles on it for $15,900 so I don't know.

i don't think that is too bad of a price really. when you figure that it's still a cobalt, with 15k on it, it's prolly fair market value.

It all has to do with how fast they can move the vehicle. Since the car has nitrous, that eliminates the possibility of selling it to 99% of their customer base. This means that they are going to have to find someone that can not only afford the $15K price tag which is tough for most young people since they don't have the credit and since it is a used vehicle, it is MUCH harder to get a loan. So essentially, there is a massive risk that the dealership could be sitting on the car for a long period of time. In a dealership, inventory turnover is key, so when you have to tell customers that the vehicle's warranty is voided, that they won't offer it with a warranty, and that it has nitrous and you aren't willing to guarantee that the vehicle's aftermarket parts were installed correctly keeping it from blowing up... well, that's scary to most people. It would take a knowledge car person with good credit or a lot of cash to buy it... and well... they would also have to desire having a Cobalt...

Personally I wouldn't buy it... because nitrous is most definitely not worth my time... just not worth the risk. Too many legal issues as well as danger issues involved with it. I'm sure many others feel the same.

Ask for carfax, get warranty, and get a 15-30 day buyback, then you should be o.k. I used to be a sell cars(hope i dont get kicked out for that lol) The dealership can offer all that as long as you have full coverage with a low deductable(at the most i think is 500) But then again each dealership/state is different. Is it a Chevy dealership?

It's because of the Nitrous homie! That's not something you want to buy used. That's like coming home and finding someone in bed with your girl.

Bad example... I am pretty sure millions of people on Adult Friend Finder have no issues with this... now if I found my gay dog in bed with my girl... then I'd have questions... well, after I took pictures to make a beastiality site with... kaching! ;0

I can almost guarantee that that was NOT an auto-x OR road course car. Nitrous is illegal for both. Besides, 9 times out of 10 if a car's been auto-x'ed you usually can't tell by the naked eye and even if you CAN tell, it's usually because of massive suspension upgrades, not engine mods.

Here's some factors:
-14k is a LOT of miles for an 07.
-nitrous
-"tire upgrade" is just a nice way of saying "the tires were so worn that they wouldn't pass state inspection, even if you took it to the crooked guy that uses his van for an inspection station"
-nitrous
-factory warranty is now null and void
-nitrous
-nitrous
-oh, did I mention nitrous???

Me either, and the same goes for about 90% of the people that I know. They're going to have a hard time moving this thing.

Like everyone else is saying - avoid it like the plague. It has 14,000 beat-upon miles, already worn out a set of tires, and who knows what else may have gone on besides the nitrous install. It could be someone else's basket case. Some idiot even scraped off the emblems!

You could probably get a 100% stock SSSC with that many miles for the same price.

none of the above. the owner couldnt make the payments cuz he was putting all his money into mods and it got reposessed and then nobody had an interest in the car because it has nitrous and it went wicked cheap and the dealer snatched it up. And is still making one hell of a profit.

Little update...

Went and checked it out today. And like I assumed, it was ragged out like crazy. It sounded like ****, ran like ****, and felt like ****. About what I expected, but it was fun to drive a cobalt that has a few extra mods ontop of mine. He wouldnt let me punch the nitrous tho(I didnt really expect to). I knew when I saw nitrous that it would be fun to play with, but not something I could buy. Good advice guys, I guess I was just excited to see another modded cobalt. They seem so rare in my area...
