If you end up splicing into the harness rather than installing the wire into the BCM plug, you might want to solder the wire into the harness so you know youll have a good connection. JMO.

So I went to the chevy dealer by my job today and the parts guy, besides being an *******, was pretty much useless. I explained to him what I needed and he was like I have 20+ connectors in boxes and I can't go looking through them. I was just like are you kidding me? So I'm gunna just go to the chevy dealer I usually deal with that's awesome and talk to them.

I used an add-a-fuse. You just plug it in to an empty fuse location so you don't have to worry about shorting, or screwing up any factory wiring. It's all custom wiring that I could unplug and hide in about... eleven and a half seconds if I had to. I'll take some pictures on how I did it tomorrow and put them up here for you. Not a huge fan of splicing or even touching any factory wiring unless you absolutely have to.

Yea I have the same way of thinking. Where do u get an add-a-fuse? Also how does the passport wire go into the add-a-fuse?

Yeah, youll either need a GOOD parts guy or need to talk to a tech.

Theres a whole post discussing the potential problems of doing it this way. I agree its probably the easiest way, but that doesnt make it any closer to bein the right way. ANd just because you cant see it doesnt mean anything.

Yeah an add-a-fuse will work, but you need to make sure you install it in the proper orientation or you get back to the whole problem of the fuse isnt protecting anything.

Is it hard to use a add-a-fuse and where would I get one?

And by any chance do you know what the connector is on the ends of the pink wires?

You'll use one of these:

It gives you the positive from the fuse box. It comes with instructions to use. Make sure you get the MINI fuse kind. Plug it into any empty slot that you think might have power. Or, like I did, use the interior dome light fuse, and just plug that existing use into the add a fuse so you have two fused connections instead of one.

Then, find a ground somewhere:

Like that. It's on the drivers side. Just pull the panel off like you did the passenger side. A 14-16 gauge clamp was used, and a 10mm socket for the bolt.

Thanks to Iroc for the ground pic. Good luck!

^^ Awesome! And thx for the pics. This is probably the route I'm gunna go, now only question I have left is where to get the add-a-fuse.

Oh, and what comes with the add-a-fuse because I already have the passport hardwiring kit so can I just connect the wire from that to the fuse portion of it? Just because in the pic it look like it has a wire, ground, etc..

So I called autozone and they said they didn't have it and the guy I called at advanceautoparts sounded like he had no idea what I was talking about and said maybe they have it in the fuse and bulbs isle lol.

Just incase they don't have it any idea where else it might be? (walmart, radioshack, etc..)

Ok just making sure this is the one..

So do I need only 1 fuse or 2? cause it looks like it has 2 spots. Also how far does this stick out cause I'm afraid the fuse panel won't go over it.

That'd be what you need! If you are putting that in a spot with a fuse already, you put the already existing fuse in either the top or bottom slot. then, you put the fuse for your new accessory in the other slot. it should tell you which slot is which.

Whatever size the radar detector recommends, if there is no recommendation with the wiring kit, use a 3amp, 5amp max if you cant find a 3.

These are probably gunna be the last 2 questions I have. I hooked up the wire to the add-a-circuit and it works but I just need to know which is the best fuse to go into (and I want it to go off when the car goes off. The second is about the actual add-a-fuse, it says it's rated for 10amps but does that mean each fuse or both together like a 5 and 5.

Ok after talking to chad he told me it's a total of 10amps between the two fuses. Problem is there are only three 2amp fuses (all the rest are 10+ amps).

The three are...

8 - IGN SW/PK3+
19 - EPS/STR WHL CNTRL
28 - SWC BKLT

I figured 8 would be best but it's in a location where the add-a-circuit wouldn't fit (all the way to the right next the HVAC fuse box). Any ideas about the other 2?
