Today the AEM DryFlow came. This is the one that fits exactly with our stock opening. It also came with a hose clamp and stickers, which adds about 680 WPH.

Exactly what I have. Works very nice. I just left the bottom of the air box off and covered it with a really fine mesh screen. I didn't want to hack apart the box. Def. sounds 100% better at WOT. Whines very nice!

I hope you mean the Airbox not the filter. If you drill a hole in the bottom of the filter, or cut it off, you bypass the filter material and defeat the whole purpose. As for the bottom of the airbox, no need to drill or cut, just unscrew it. It's 4 screws to take it off.

don't you still need a hole in the airbox when using the AEM dryflow to be able to tighten the clamp? Or is there a way to tighten that bad boy without drilling?

apparently you can tighten with a good small wrench - the drilled hole means you can use a screw driver instead. And Ryuu600, you don't understand, the hole is not IN the filter, but FOR the filter hose clamp.

If you did this mod (drilling a hole into the stock airbox) on the 07 cobalt lt's would it give it more power and a louder sound too? or no?

It should come with a clamp - mine had it on in the box, holding plastic wrap over the filter. I'm in Canada, so I couldn't find a site that didn't wanna take my left arm for shipping. I called Mopac on the phone from Calgary/Edmonton. Shipped to my door was 63 Canadian.

Oh I understand completely. I've done the mod. I was questioning the previous poster's comment about getting more airflow and "sound to come out" by drilling a hole in the "case of the air filter." Thus the reason for my post.

For some reason, my car started rejecting the Injen CAI, so i did the air box mod using the exact filter in this how-to. My car STILL freaked out under WOT.

Then i tried the airbox mod using the stock paper filter and some alluminum mesh to hold the filter safely in place. Got plenty of whine buy my car STILL freaked out at WOT

So i bought a K&N replacement filter, and just drilled about 20 pea sized holes in the stock air box cover, and i got a good bit of whine and the car runs fine now.

Weirdest thing i have ever seen in all my life working with automobiles :S

There is a PCM flash update for that.

You see its a little more complicated. I had a thread on my problem. But long story short, my car was severly overboosting due to a Stage 2 installation error by the GM tech.

It took them 2 months to fix it, and when they fixed it, a little while later my MAF started acting up and during repeated WOT runs to redline the car would sputter and pop and refuse to accelerate.

Now this is with an Injen that i have previously had no problems with. So i re installed the stock airbox and installed a new MAF sensor (only like 80 bucks) and the problem disapeared.

Unfortunately for me i was addicted to the supercharger whine, but everytime I would leave the filter exposed in attempt get the whine back (ie Injen CAI or airbox mod) the problem would re-occur!

Only thing that works without a problem is K&N filter, and i drilled some holes in the cover so i could hear some whine.

I dont know if it IS more complicated. Apparently the PCM flash is for high frequency MAF readings: IE any CAI. Seems to logically fit with your story..... Just my 3 cents.

I would be willing to part with it for super cheap. I cant just give it away because i forked out 230+ shipping to get it.

However it is missing the anti-vibration mount and it is pretty scuffed up. But it doesn't have any holes and the filter was barely used. Make me an offer in a PM and we may talk.

But in all honesty i would recommend you just do the airbox mod at the beginning of this thread. Way more bang for the buck.

And to the guy recommending the new flash. I'm sure there was a flash, but considering my car was having overboosting problems and was at the dealership for 2 months, i would assume that the first thing they would have did was flash it with every available update that they could get there hands on.

I could be wrong though, but i really don't want my dealership to know that i'm my is car re-acting severely to an aftermarket part

thats horriable about ur car havein over boost.. but i know on the stock engine that theres a controle that onyl lets ur car have so much boost its ontop of ur engine next to ur letrical box and im sure they took that off when installin stage 2 or3 w/e one u got.. but i had alot of letrical probs with my car when i first bought it.. so sense problems accured i just recently abotu 3 weeks ago went to a Lemon Law dealer.. Gm is gonna get there **** pushed in.. so im expection something from them sometime soon.. but thanks about landon for the honesty. i'll take ur word. good luck with ur car.

wow. even if this mod cost 3 times as much, and took 3 times as long to do, it would still be worth every penny. i just did mine today and it is incredible. it is so loud, and sounds so sweet, and it even has a little more pep, which i didnt expect. greatest mod evar!
