i have a few questions about it, i didnt feel like reading the whole thread.
1. should i get an intake, or should i just do this airbox mod
2. or is both the best way to go about it
3. is it necessary to buy a filter before doing this mod...
4. how much power does it add?
5. how long does it take?
....

you don't need both
yes you need a filter
according to AEM about 6-8hp
time is dependent, couple hrs start to finish
how would it compare power wise to an injen intake, ill be dropping down to a 2.5 pulley i was wondering if it would be sufficient? is the supercharger as loud with the airbox mod as with the intake? what would you recommend for a filter?

ironically bout the same power, maybe a little more with an intake but remember the plastic tubing wont soak heat like a metal intake.
sounds great!
get a dryflow AEM filter if you can.

i heard from a guy who installes intakes on another thread not to get aem, he claimed once they get very wet, their useless, and somethign about an oil problem, whats your opinion on this?

The filter soaks up and causes the car to sputter and irractically rev.
If you shift under 3500 this will never happen though.....seems to only happen if the filter is wet and you hold medium throttle over 4000
AEM is not oiled.
ASIDE from that the cobalts wheel well air inlet is pretty weak. There is no louver and the water can come striaght in off the tire and onto the maf. I suggest to tighten up the 7mm screws as best you can and make you're own louver for the wheel well. I cleaned my old lsj one out once and found a tiny waterbead coming in from between the MAF and the tube due to water being sprayed ontop of it. AEM's surface MAF mount was not 100% level and I needed to make a rubber gasket.

well i had mine for thousands of miles with all kinds of wet/dry driving, not a single problem, as long as the undershield is in tact you will be fine. its the same filter type aem uses with the CAI's.
Water can spray in on top of the filter too so tightening the undersheild is only part of it. You are very lucky to not have a problem yet, but with just a few thousand miles on it , it can still happen. Mine was fine for 12 000km then it started doing this. I even tested the maf etc and it was fine. tuning was ok. If you go AEM, buy the Injen Hydrosheild.

No, not that i could tell but I didnt dyno. And I didnt have any problems after this was put on, and I fixed the crappy surface of the aem maf mount, and made a louver for the air vent in the wheel well to deflect water
I put on the spectre air filter about a week ago and my cel has gone on twice since this has happened. Yes I reset the pcm, and no i dont have the reflash. I called the local goodwrench center and they said it costs $120 to do the reflash. I do not have the money to do that. (I also think its rediculous for gm to have you pay for something that should have been included in the first place). but from what I have read people havent had any problems with aem dryflow intake. Besides the water ones mentioned above. My question is those of you who have the dry flow are you guys getting the cels and if not do you have the reflash?
Anyway the how to was great and the car screams with the new intake. Great job.

I put my AEm dry flow in 20,000 miles ago and never got the lean code.
You have oil on your MAF from the spectra filter.
Get the dryflow, pull out the maf and clean it with maf cleaner only, pull the battry cables and wait 1/2 hour.
hook everything back up and you shouldn't get the lean code again,,,,and the s/c will still scream.

so i need a 3" filter, aem has 4 options on their site, which is best?
