Cobalt SS Shift Knob Removal, 6 Easy Steps *W/Pics*

2006 Cobalt SS factory/stock gear shift knob removal in 6 easy steps, with pics!!!

Step#1

Step#2
Use a very small flat tip screwdriver and pry up gently around corners of silver/black cap...remove cap.

Step#3
Use a 25 Torx bit/driver and remove small torx screw from center of gear shift knob.

Step#4
Take two large flat tip screw drivers and place horizontal on each side of shifter knob, and pull upwards. This step helps if you have two people.

Step#5
Once knob is removed, take small spring and foam off of gear shift.

Yeah when i researches how to do it thats what everyone was saying.
Little leverage and it popped right off.
The dynamite is being saved for later projects

I needed to take it off to put on new shift boot.(old one was torn up)
I didnt show it but with these steps done you can basically pull the boot off and whole shifter assembly for that matter

Boot is connected to a plasic piece than snaps down in there. Just give it a little tug and should pop right out. Once plastic piece is unattached you will notice the boot is connected to it w/ staples. Take staples out and boot comes off.
To get new boot on i used staples just like factory. Took some time but as you can see in pictures it turned out great.

Just an added note....

You will need heavy duty staples to get through the plastic.

A generic home stapler will not cut it.

I used a staple gun for wood. Much more powerful than home staple gun
