Electrical: How-To: A/F Gauge Install on 2006 Cobalt LS & Supercharged
OK if you look under the dash on the drivers side of the car, pretty much directly below the steering column, you should see a rubber grometyou should be able to gain access there. when i installed mine i just patched into the purple wire near the plug for the O2 sensor instead of fishing through the mess of wires. it took me about 20 minutes since you kinda have to be a contortionist to get it done but it works fine once you finally get it. if you are having problems still PM me and let me know and i'll take a picture tomorrow and point an arrow to where the gromet is at. let me know!
i know where the gromet is, and i used a hanger tand stuck it through but i couldnt find where it came out at.. i know it's twords the bottom of the car but i didnt seem to finda anything..but dose that wire run inside under the drivers side and connects to the data port for the ecu under the drivers side ?????

ok i tryed everywayz even the way i thought would work by tapping into the o2 sensor but that doesnt 100% work you do get a signal but its a weak one theres no way around it so your stuck with getting an aem wideband
I'm getting a strong signal. And it's saying I'm rich as hell. LMFAO!
What PIN did you tap into?
The A/F Gauge is electrical thus meaning every little electrical signal makes it think its your o2 sensor. The LED display runs off a certain Volt signal that is sent from your sensor to the pcm.

i tapped into the gray one like the how to said then i tryed the purple ones and still nothing so i got my wire dyagram and tapped into mt o2 wire itself and im getting a readin but its not jumping like it should be its reading two bars above red and the only time i see it hit green is when im on the highway an i drop it a gear an go for it
um, you should be using the o2 sensor it came with and welding a bung to your exhause setup. I beleive its 18" from the head. then you can use your gauge as a wideband gauge as it was intended. I could be mistaken with all of this, but this is what i got out the purpose of having a wideband.
ok i have a C2 a/f gauge and it didnt come with a o2 sensor and its not a wideband, i found a 3 purple wires in the engine bay right in front of the fuse box should i hook it up in there? or what im lost and i dont get anything on this forum because im having problems finding the ECU and from there i have to find the Purple wire my cobalt is sitting outside all torn apart so if anyone could help me i would appericate it ASAP so i can drive my car

Vehicles covered by this write-up: 2005-2006 Cobalt LS & Supercharged
Installation Duration: 1 hour
Skills needed(1 being least and 10 being expert): 2
Parts you need to purchase:
Some sort of gauge pod(your preference)
Air/Fuel Gauge(Summit Racing brand Part # SUM-G2986)
Wire
Crimps
Tools:
Clothes hanger
Wire cutters and strippers
Crimpers
10mm socket & wrench
Directions:
1) Disconnect battery(located in trunk)
2) Install gauge pod onto A-pillar or whereever following their instructions. I used a a-pillar gauge pod and had to attach it with four screws and drill a hole for the wires as I'm going more for function right now.

3) Remove rubber plug on firewall located as shown. Slide clothes hanger through hole and find in the engine bay. Attach two wires to it and pull back through. This is your power wire and A/F signal wire. Mark them to keep them seperated.

4) Hooking up the power wire - using a crimp put the red A/F wire(power) and crimp it into one side. The power wire you ran through the firewall will be connected to the other side using the same method.
5) Now adding power - Take off the fuse box cover and find the IP Ign fuse. A mini green 20A fuse. Strip off some of the wire and put this on ONE side of the fuse and re-insert fuse. Congrats-You have power now.

6) Hooking up the signal wire(grey wire) - Perform the same method as connecting the wires as you did the power. Locating the signal wire is fairly easy. In the bundle of wires next to the ECU locate the Purple wire with a white strip. Cut this wire and strip the ends. Connect the signal wire you ran through the firewall on one wire and connect the two using a crimp.
Location of bundle:

Wire:

7) Hooking up your ground - Anywhere will be great, but I used the metal bracket that supports my clutch pedal. Just removed one bolt put the black wire there and bolted it back down.
8: Reconnect battery and check wires and make sure everythings snug.
9) Crank her up and watch the gauge. Give it a second to get the signal and tap the gas a couple times to see if the gauge changes. After a few minutes of idle it may dance which is normal.
10) If everything is working properly you are finished!
Disclaimer: Do not put gauge where it will affect your night time driving. I am under no reason responsible for where you install it. Please drive safely & responsible.

Narrowband - you use an existing o2 sensor(ppl use these just for a rough idea)
Wideband - you have to weld in the o2 sensor that SHOULD be provided with the gauge(ppl use these for tuning purposes)
What kind of vehicle do you have?
The following PCM Connecter pinouts is for 2005-06 LS with a 5spd.

No thanks needed. Did this for the 2.2L Cobalt owners. No I will not be spilling my guts on how I got it either. Sorry just some information is best kept private.

i have a 2006 cobalt ss/sc maybe thats why i dont have those wires. i didnt know they were different. but if you can please please get a hold of the supercharged version. please that would help out a bunch. thanks
Okay. here's one....I have a Cobalt LTZ 2.2 and am trying to install an a/f gauge. the directions i got were to tap connect to the gray wire for the signal. I have all other cables hook-up and have the signal cable connected to the grey on the cat. I reads that I am running LEAN constantly( so I assume no signal). What can I do?

You need the gray wire so this is how I went about it. Any of the GY codes on the pinout dealing with anything o2 related I put a paperclip in the back of the connector(so its still hooked up to the computer). And with the car running if I saw the afr gauge jump to the middle and go up and down(may take a minute) I knew I had the proper signal wire.
That is the easiest method I found to be helpful.
ok well i know thisw says 05-06. but i have an 07 and i have 2 bundles of wires goin when in your pix there is one. the fatter bundle that on top has 3 purple/white wires and the smaller bundle thats on the bottom has one purple/white wire. and ideas to help me out would be gr8. i have an 07 LT2. i looked thur that pin out sheet above im lost...

Can you get pictures of your connectors disconnected from the PCM? Like one of both disconnected shot to show which side is what. Then a picture of each individually.
Maybe it is possible to find out that way. Also it would be easier in person.
It may take a little longer yet it SHOULD be possible to find the correct wire you need.
