Yep, it installs just fine. We did it too. Takes patience and small tools too! The only fault is lifting the armrest up and down to set and release the brake.

Thanks for the instructions!

Is it difficult to remove the stock cupholder/e-brake peices? Do they unscrew or what?

Armrest Install

The cupholder comes off fairly easily. You also need to take the cover from the e-brake so you can space for the fourth bolt. The hardest part for me was getting the metal brace that holds the armrrest to slide into place. Everything else either came apart ok or bolted in ok. Props to Philco who pioneered and w/o whose pictures I would have been lost. The instructions that came with the armrest defy all attempts at understanding. -- laborsmith

The cupholder and the other console part are held on by tabs consequently you just pull them off.

Actually, the real German driver's cars don't have armrests. Neither of my GTi's had them. The excuse I always heard is that it nearly forces you to keep both hands on the wheel.

When I finally get my SS, I do plan on buying an armrest however.

Very True, at least that is what I've been noticing since I got mine last Wednesday, I've been keeping both hands on the wheel more... I still would like the Armrest though, I'm left handed and use that for my primary steering arm.

I enjoy my armrest. If I want to sport shift then I tip it up but for regular driving it's extra nice since I can shift with only my wrist and keep my arm on the armrest.

I told my dealer I wouldn't order a SS SC unless they included and installed a armrest for free. I'm also picking my car up today at 4pm after a 5 week wait

Peace

OMG OMG OMG, I ordered this today. I cant believe I missed the fact a armrest is available for the Cobalt SS. I saw this how to before briefly and thought it was someones custom job of adding armrest, now I know I was wrong. I will be putting this on as soon as I get it. Awesome!

85.55 shipped.

Thank you whoever posted part #'s that was the most important thing

just 4 or 5 days for it to get to my dealer
the PITA though is fitting the aluminum bracket for mounting in
I kinda had to wrestle it into place , doesnt seem to get in the way of me shifting
But , i have long monkey arms though.

I ordered it on the 17th, and as of today it lists it on their site as "Special ordered" I requested it to be delivered to my home. Does it not ship directly from them or do they special order it wait for it to be delivered to them and then ship it to me? I was hoping to get it sometime this week, is it like 2-4 weeks delivery or does the 5 days the previous poster (thanks for the info) sound right?
