This is my concern as well. The dealer gave me $100 gift certificate for some problems I had with my wheels, so I'm planning on doing the armrest kit. I think I may just buy some sticky felt stuff to stick on the seat bolster to protect it from any rubbing, sort of what like some of the seatbelts have on them to keep from getting stractched up.

Came standard in the SS.... I'm sure it fits the same.. I find I have to lift it up to do up my seat belt and use the hand brake comfortably.. but i fold it back down once I'm rolling.. Ita a great place to keep the Radar detector when its not being used.

Here's my messed up situation...I ordered an armrest as part of my lease agreement when I bought my G5 4 weeks ago. The dealer said that the cost was $400+, but after some negotiating, they gave me the armrest at their cost which would cost me $288 after 48 months of payments. That would have been fine but when the armrest came in 2 weeks ago, I recieved JUST the armrest...no hardware, spacer or replacement cupholder. I noticed this right away and they said that was what GM sent and they would look into it. After I kept on them, my salesguy called and said that I would have to remove the p. brake cables and then mount the armrest directly to the car and then route the p. brake cables thru the base of the armrest..WTF!!?? I went to the dealership and told them that would never work. Last nite I found this thread and this morning, went to another GM dealership and priced an armrest kit w/everything included...hardware and cupholder. Price?...$108!! I went to my salesman and told him I was pissed for being so overcharged for an armrest that has been in my trunk for 2 weeks b/c I can't mount it. They looked into it and said that there is no armrest available for manual transmission coupes and they just went by what GM said when they ordered my current armrest.

Now they want to know if they should order me the armrest kit for an automatic ($101.00)

I'm not absolutley sure if the auto one will fit in my m/t car. Could you guys that installed an armrest in your M/T car let me know what armrest kit you ordered? Will the auto one fit fine? I can't see why it wouldn't. Thanks. -Rod

It shouldnt matter if its an Automatic or a Manual, that Armrest is universal in the Cobalt and I'm pretty sure the G5s also. I would say go back and tell them you want the money back for the armrest cause you are getting ripped off. Order one from GMpartsdirect.com and you'll get everything you need.

Tell them to take a look on this website and tell them it should literally 15 minutes to install it, doing it my way. GMs way will go as far as taking the whole center console out. They shouldnt have to take the parking break cables out or anything else that I didnt say to take out.

This armrest IS the armrest from the automatic trans cars.Your dealer is either an idiot,a crook or both. You can get this from GM for less than 80 dollars including shipping and it only takes less than an hour to install.I installed mine, took a 20 minute drive with it in the car AND removed it in about an hour.Seems like most people who put it in love it.I'm not one of them.It got in my way when up or down.So I took it back out.Anybody wants a black one, mine is for sale: $60 bucks INCLUDING shipping in the US. Just send a PM.

Sold it.

Oh **** thats awesome! I was wondering why they listed it for the LS only on that GM cobalt accessory site. I never saw an LS and thought maybe they had a different console then us guys in the SS coupes. I'm definetely going to buy one now.

Go to crateenginedepot.com and type armrests on the search to get 3 different colors for the Cobalt. It will work on a manual as well.

Thumbs up

Hey just want to thank the gentlemen for posting these instructions because they help me out far better then the confusing ones that came with the armrest ever would.

I have a manual and the armrest is a great feature for driving comfort. Never gets in the way of the brake or shifting. Also just if anyone was wondering at bought mine here www.gmaccessories-direct.com. Fair price and quick shipping.

I think this is the best mod i have done by far. I don't know if its because i was so used to having an armrest in my cavalier or im just lazy. But its the perfect height to shift easily and rest ur arm. Seems as though it sits closer to the passenger seat. I'll just have to watch and see if it starts to wear over there, but i leave it down all the time so i might be fine.

Does anyone know if you can swap the center consoles from the Redline's? I think that e-brake looks much nicer and the armrest setup is thinner so i don't think there will be rubbing issues.

lol yea I can't believe how giddy I am over an armrest...i just finished installing it. I just grab the ebrake with my left hand now instead.

seems ok while driving but if you had a short shifter you'd prolly have to stand the armrest up...

For anyone with an armrest in the SS/SC... does the armrest rub the seats? If you have to pull the armrest up so often for better shifting and to apply the e-brake, won't it wear the seats out in those spots?

Armrest Install

That guide was very helpful except for one thing; how do you pop the covers off without damaging the trim/clips holding all that in place? I have the armrest but haven't been able to figure out how to remove the coverings to install....

Duh, ok... figured it out. Armrest is in! No problem with shifting, though if you'rre slammin it, I agree you need to raise it up. The comfort on long drives sure is worth it!

Ordered mine today at the dealership, I was quoted $118 Canadian. I'm sure it could be found online for a little cheaper, but it's an added convenience to just let the dealer do all the ordering and I can get it quicker from them.

I've had mine in for a couple of months now, and it does rub a bit on the driver's seat, doesn't touch the passenger seat, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I highly recommend it, especially for long drives
