This is the next thing i wanna do to my cobalt but the problem is how do i wire it to a source on where i cut on the ignition it starts up and lights up instead of haveing to cut them on manually, and if i dont have a pillar pod just yet here would be a good place to mount them?

Does your gauge still read how much power you have even when car is off? Mine does and slowly goes down. Help?

Mine only reads when I have the ignition on, when I turn it off, the needle stays put, and resets the next time the ignition comes on.

So say you are reading like 14 volts and turn the car off. Your needle stays at around 14-13.5? t when you start back up it jumps back to running voltage? Another thing, I cant get the illumination to work correctly

My needle will stay at whatever voltage it was at when I shut down. When I restart, since it's an electric full-sweep, it goes through a startup sequence, which means, it does a full sweep, and back to zero, then to the current reading.

What brand of gauge do you have?

Cobalt series shortsweep. mine doesnt have the harness to plug in the back. just the terminals. one for lighting, one for lighting ground, one for power, and one for power ground, i just wont the illumination to kick on with ignition and turn off with ignition off, dont really care if it dims or not.

It's still easier to tap into the dimmer, that way it comes on and off when interior lighting is on.

Yes, it's gray. It comes right off the dimmer knob, correct. You have to have interior lights on for it to work, I'm assuming you did that, though...

Do you have a test light?

Hmm...very odd. Mine was gray. Maybe it's not coming directly off of the knob, I can't remember, since it's been a while...but there's one that is part of the dash lighting, and the dimmer controls its voltage.

Cool, good to know. I do remember something about a green wire, but it's been a while since I installed it, so I don't totally remember.

The gauge I used was an Auto Meter Cobalt-series Full-sweep Voltmeter. PN 6191

Not sure on the gauge pillar PN. You can find them on this site in the classifieds all the time.
