How To: Paint Yo Plastics (Pics)
Aite Children... Today we gonna learn to paint Yo' Plastics.
And by plastics i mean anything thats plastic in or on the car you want to paint... (Dash, pillars, Center Console, Engine Covers, etc) NO SANDING OR PRIMING REQUIRED
THIS IS A GENERIC HOW TO I KNOW ITS NOT A COBALT DONT FLAME MY ASS AND I DID NOT DECIDE ON THIS COLOR SCHEME
Bascailly this is a 98 civic project car. It will be the same basics for your cobalt. You will need some general kowledge to remove the desired parts and reinstall them.

Paint used - I reccomend krylon fusion spray paint for plastic. You can get it at walmart for about 4 bucks a can.

Before - Today's project.... a Center Console/armrest
1.) Before painting anything you should remove the piece from your car. Make sure you are painting in wide open areas free from dust and well ventilated... i am not held responsible for any ******* mistakes on your part. I would also reccommend lying newspaper down or placing the item inside a cardboard box to prevent paint from getting on your floors or whatever surface you are painting on.

Dismemberment
2.) Apply a plastics cleaner to ensure all residues and bodily secretions are vacant and go over the surface once more to ensure the surface is dry and free of debris.
3.) Tape off any areas you do not want to be affected by the paint. Use an razorblade to cut any fine lines with the tape to get a clean look.
4.) Shake can well for about 30 seconds and apply a light thin even coat of paint while holding the can UPRIGHT. It is recommended that you paint holding the can erect and not tilted at an angle or you may just end up splooging all over your project rather than spraying paint. Use a fan like motion about 5 to 9 inches away from plastic
5.) You will apply somewhere between 3 to 5 thin coats total, while waiting approx 7 minutes bewtween coats. After all coats are applied let dry for 20 minutes.

Painted Inserts

Painted Console
6.) Go back over with one light coat just to get a good cover of paint and let dry for 30 minutes.
7.) After it is compete dry remove tape from the desired areas and once again wipe down the plastic pieces with a clean cloth to remove any debris..... once again no sanding or priming is required. This technique was used on a previous car and has lasted four years without chipping or cracking! Still looks good as new.
AND HERE ARE YOUR RESULTS....
Go crazy, be creative and be unique!

After - Different Angle

Also, if you're going to do black, grey, tan...any standard interior color on vinyl, like in the pictures, just use vinyl dye instead of paint. It won't chip or come off. This plastic paint may do ok, but not as good as dye.
