Stock Gold sucks bad....I did this last night and went with flat black. I also painted my grill b/c the black on the bowtie looked much better than the black on the grill...I didn't remove the chrome trim...I painted it too...I am very impressed with the results so thanks for the how too....I also put tenzo springs and a SRI on this week also....so I've been busy...too busy to wash so pics come this weekend!

looks real good man, I like that. I just painted my grill flat black today, and will be working on the bowties tomorrow after I go pick up the duplicolor paint and gloss from autozone. I'll definitely post pics. My car is black, and I just got rims that are alloy with black accents, so I want everything to match. Gonna leave the chrome outline, paint the calipers black, and paint the trim pieces on the interior black as well. Where in texas are you?

remove it from the silver so you dont have to try and get it centered again when re-installing it

I have a question.... I used rust-oleum primer and gloss black on mine. I sanded it first then washed it with a mild soap and let it sit in the sun for an hour to dry it. then primered it. did two coats of primer. sanded it again and washed and dried it... then painted it and did three light coats. and it came out like this...

I haven't cleared it yet b/c i want to know if there is anyway to save it b4 i strip it and start again. i also painted the grille inserts but had no probs. I used 400 sand paper

It looks like you waited to long in between your coats and it looks like your primer has cracked. Also looks like your paint came out in splotches which is the result of not shaking well.

I did the grille inserts in the background at the same time and they came out perfect. anyway im going to try to sand it down and throw on a really light coat of paint and then clear it tomorrow after work.

also it was like 100*+ in my garage so I'm guessing you are right and it dried too quick between coats. but i was looking for how to FIX IT not how i fucked it up.

u might wanna try sanding it with something higher than 400 to get it a lil smoother, but my question is, when u sanded the primer, did u wipe off all the debris really well? I'm nothing special with painting, just throwing out a suggestion if ur plannin on sanding again.

I cleaned all the dust from sanding each time. I ended up sanding all the way down to the primer and sprayed two light coats. it's drying now. I'm hoping it doesn't get those ripples again or I will have to sand down the ripples and then clear coat and be done with it.

I think I saved it. This is what it looks like before clear coat.

well I did my bowties but the didn't come out as clear and shiny as i wanted, and the first time I ran it through a carwash (I know bad, but I needed a quick was before a date some of the paint got sprayed off the back one. So this time, I want to take them off, sand them, and do it the right way. Am I correct in saying most of you that have done this just hit it with a blow dryer for a few minutes and then it comes off the chrome base easy? Last time I used painters tape and paint still got through to the chrome.

Well first off you didn't ask anyone how to fix it... you stated you didn't know what happened. I said that you waited to long or you didn't shake it up well. So really if you think about it if those were the two things that "fucked it up" then why don't shake the can better next time or don't wait so long between coat's.

Forgive me for trying to help you.

@Homestar1217: Yea, if you leave it under a blow dryer is should peel off like your emblems...Just try not to metal the plastic but with a hair dryer you shouldn't have any problems
