Appearance: How-to: Paint your Bowtie
WOW, spent 2 hours painting it, clear coated it, waxed it and had it looking PRETTY. I put some double sided tape stuff and thought it was on there pretty good. Go for a drive and the **** fell off. Dammit.
Just left the silver on... put mine back on with permatex yerr!

I feel like I did something wrong, yet I didn't. I heated it super hot with heat gun for about 30 min. Then attempted to get r off. Rather than it coming of nicelty the plastic became brittle and snapped right away
Now I got find a junk-yard to get a new one, ugh. Next time, I think I'll tape it off.

This time I just painted the whole thing. I used VHT Niteshade. Its very glossy and in the sun the gold bowie underneath shines through. I wet sanded the whole piece down with a 600 sand paper. Applied about 9 light coats to achieve this.

ok well to be honest if u want to paint it ur just better off going with "Rust-Oleum" brand spray paint products unless ur absolutely set on color matching then in that case good luck...i have spray painted tons of **** on my balt and i did my bowties after reading how to take them off...front and back and i actually ran into an issue with getting them off
in the front one of the 2 hex nuts came off the other one wouldnt back off in the thread pattern but good news...the nuts r pieces of **** and u can get a dremel in there to cut it off and the "bolt" the nut is on is simply a plastic piece that protrudes off the back of the bowtie so if u have trouble getting the nuts off just dremel it lol dremels save lives
for the back emblem its just got an adhesive foam pad holding it on no big deal...just slowly pull the bowtie off the trunk lid but be careful i ended up snapping the right end in half so i had to super glue it back together so be careful pulling it off, it will come off just be sure not to pry it so hard u break it.
once they r off all u have to do is get a rust-oleum primer and prime the bowtie with 2 coats let dry then move on to an all purpose rust oleum spray paint of your desired color and finish, i chose flat black. give it three good coats and allow about 2 hours to dry after the third coat. then get yourself a clear coat spray paint, there are several finishes u can choose i did a flat or matte clear coat. give it 2 or 3 coats of clear coat and dont touch it once u have ur desired number of coats just let it sit for a full 24 hours.
once u have them primed, painted, and clear coated get yourself some gorilla glue super glue and glue the bowties back on the car...yes it will hold gorilla glue is dam good stuff only downfall is the next time u want to take them off it may be a struggle but i dont plan on removing them ever again so that doesnt matter to me.
bottom line is for spray paint rust oleum products rock ive always used them when painting anything on my cobalt and have never had an issue just great results plus its a lot cheaper then buying **** from gm.
