When you take off the stock paint with the thinner, should you also get those sections that are in the back area and in between the spokes, or just tape off those parts when you are using the paint thinner?

I told the mechanic I know about this. He told me not to do it because I would "hate the finish". He said it would be very uneven and "blochey" and that I should take it to a place to have it done. Is your finish uneven or bumpy or runny?

Nice write up. I'm curious to see how this will look with my accented blue rims.

I'm gonna have to break up my photoshop as well :P

NO, not unless you plan on painting that section as well like Kebmle did.

If you want it to stay like stock just mask that section off as is

Okay, got it. Thank you. Also, should I take off the tires from the rims and then just have them remounted, or just tape of the edge of the tire?

You will probably get the best results by removing the tires while you do this, it will also make the rims easier to handle.

However, I don't think it'd cause you any problems if you left the tires on while you painted. It would just make the masking step more difficult, and it will not be as easy to handle as the rim alone.

i would have them taken off because that paint stripper is nasty **** and could screw up your tires

^^True, I didn't even think about the paint stripper. As expensive as our tires are, I wouldn't risk ruining them.

Tires off FTW
