I got kind of busy this weekend and did not have a chance to do it yet, but then I started to think how it would look on the orange. Does anyone have any pictures of the Orange with the painted black? That would help a lot in my descision, it looks good on all the other colors, I just was kind of doubtful as to how the Orange would look.

Nevermind, I got it done the other night, and it looks good, especially with the orange. Thanks for all the help, I would post up a picture, but I am not able to post attachments.

Ill go and take some pictures tommorow. It looks really good though. I plan on painting the headlights, the front bowtie, and then having the middle part of the wing painted.

you will have to have an extra car, you have to take all four wheels off your car, take them to anyone that has the experience and the equipment to handle 18's correctly, and have the tires taken off, do the paint, let them sit for a day, and have the same place put the tires back on

I have a couple of questions.

first off the end result is EXCELLENT. they honestly dont even look like the stockers anymore. and i love the look with the black balt.

anyways, my questions before i would tackle something like this are.

1. why strip? wouldnt scuffing, sand, wipe, prime, paint, clear work just as well without having to remove your gunmetal?

2. when you strip the whole rim arent you leaving the "unpainted" area a little vulnerable since you have stripped all the coatings off?

Please dont take this as bashing. its an excellent write up and i really want my rims to look just like yours. but im a little gunshy when it comes to stripping my rims.

you dont want to scuff the metal becuase you are going to be showing some of the unpainted metal on the lip part, strippping is far less work, and has a great result.

i put clear coating on all exposed metal parts

I hear ya. and good to hear you clearcoated to keep it all shiny and protected .

i understand what you mean on the lip part....but i was thinking more of taping and prepping only the "to be painted" area. so the unchanged part stays gunmetal, and underneath the paint is still gunmetal in case something goes wrong during painting, or in the future with the longevity of the mod.

btw id imagine you went through a fair few cans of paint for the full job right?

1 can primer, 1 can black, 2 cans clear, thats it for both wheels.

i dont know that the paint would stick to the gunmetal for one, and you wouldnt be able to salvage the gunmetal even if you just painted over it becaue you would have to use a paint stripper to take off the spray paint which would also take off the gunmetal

i dont know man, sorry to say it but i dont think the polished part would like spray paint too much, youd have to scrape them up bad to get any to stick

the outer part of the rim "silver in the demo" is painted on the 2.4 SS rim. you can still paint that. AFAIK the rest of the wheel DOES have a clear coat finish on it (touch it, that's not bare metal) so you prolly could paint it, you'd just have to give it a light sand first.
