I got kind of busy this weekend and did not have a chance to do it yet, but then I started to think how it would look on the orange. Does anyone have any pictures of the Orange with the painted black? That would help a lot in my descision, it looks good on all the other colors, I just was kind of doubtful as to how the Orange would look.
Nevermind, I got it done the other night, and it looks good, especially with the orange. Thanks for all the help, I would post up a picture, but I am not able to post attachments.

I have a couple of questions.
first off the end result is EXCELLENT. they honestly dont even look like the stockers anymore. and i love the look with the black balt.
anyways, my questions before i would tackle something like this are.
1. why strip? wouldnt scuffing, sand, wipe, prime, paint, clear work just as well without having to remove your gunmetal?
2. when you strip the whole rim arent you leaving the "unpainted" area a little vulnerable since you have stripped all the coatings off?
Please dont take this as bashing. its an excellent write up and i really want my rims to look just like yours. but im a little gunshy when it comes to stripping my rims.

i put clear coating on all exposed metal parts

I hear ya. and good to hear you clearcoated to keep it all shiny and protected
.i understand what you mean on the lip part....but i was thinking more of taping and prepping only the "to be painted" area. so the unchanged part stays gunmetal, and underneath the paint is still gunmetal in case something goes wrong during painting, or in the future with the longevity of the mod.
btw id imagine you went through a fair few cans of paint for the full job right?

i dont know that the paint would stick to the gunmetal for one, and you wouldnt be able to salvage the gunmetal even if you just painted over it becaue you would have to use a paint stripper to take off the spray paint which would also take off the gunmetal

She could get them powdercoated.
