The G5 cluster is a 2007 . GM changed the scroll buttons in 2007 from the dash panel to the steering wheel controls . By doing so , the electrical resistence values the buttons send to the BCM and then off to info center to chage modes likely changed as well . Does it even lite up and show anything ?

Keep in mind doing this ....05-06 guys have to use a 05-06 cluster . 2007-2008 guys have to use a 07-08 cluster . The interior wiring harness and BCM are different between 05-06 and 07-08 .

damn oh well... I got an 07 G5 cluster. The mileage, speedo, rpms, and gas works though and thats all that counts. I'll just have to write down when I have to do oil changes, and keep an eye on the gas gauge which is no big deal.

....if u reeeally wanted the full function of the DIC , you could purchase a 2005-2006 Cobalt cluster . Transfer the Pontiac guage face to the Cobalt cluster , put the Cobalt face on the 2007 G5 cluster . Then you could get your money back selling the G5 cluster as 2007 Cobalt cluster ...its all the same under the guage face . In case you were wondering , the RED illumination comes from the guage face , not the bulbs .

If I just confused the hell out of u , feel free to pm me , lol .

lol, I understand what ya mean... last time I removed needles of the gauge on my cavalier, they got all screwed up and didn't work.

if I find someone that knows how, I can swap the faces from the new gauges I bought, to the stock one I have.

FWIW , the Cobalt needles are much easier than the older GM clusters . The old ones used air cores that didnt 0 out . The cobalt uses stepper motors .

Hey, Noob here, but I've been reading the how to's a lot and I've done a few things. This post interested me and I ran into the same prob. with getting the 07 G5 cluster when I have an 05 BASE coupe balt. Unfortunately the cluster didn't work so I was looking into doing this exact thing, switching the faces, but my concern is will it read correctly, speed wise, by doing just the face swap?? I know they've said a cluster swap will work, but not sure if it's the same for just the face.

The face plate swaps not gonna work, the numbers are gonna be off since 05 base goes up to 120mph, and the g5 goes up to 140mph

best bet just getting a faceplate from black cat customs

The one thing that hasn't really been mentioned was the odometer reading. I am assuming it stayed the same?
