A quick HOW TO on installing the RPD(UAF)
Glad you tried this and verified.
I would've figured that switching it to Imperial on an '09+ and then moving it to the '08 would have solved the Metric issue, but I guess not.
The RPD has it's own OS, so I figured it would remember whatever it was programmed for. This suggests that it either shows whatever it's sent over the network (and therefore the '08 BCM only transmits in Metric), or that it resets to the default Metric units due to being unplugged from its power source.
Can anybody with an '08 and a scan gauge / HPT confirm that there are PIDs in Imperial units on an '08? I haven't heard anybody say that they could only see Metric info over the network or anything when monitoring/logging, so that means that we're left with the possibility that it may be the RPD resetting and the BCM not knowing how to send the RPD the "switch units" signal.

For instance, I've now got Boost in PSI on my Dashdaq, being calculated by the difference in the Baro sensor and MAP sensor, but I had to find both of the PIDs for them in PSI to make that work. Some of them broadcast in other units of measurement too.
I've got an '09 BCM, so maybe those extra PIDs were present in the '09+ BCMs. Perhaps that's why RPDs don't show vacuum, since they had no way of switching between two different units (Between inches Mercury and PSI on the same gauge and most wouldn't know what to do with "negative PSI", like what I've got on my Dashdaq). For the ones with analog gauges, all they'd have to do is pick a unit of measurement to use in the background (in this case it seems to be metric) for use in driving the gauge and then change the faceplate on it to match. It could be Metric or Imperial from a network point of view, and with a correctly scaled faceplate, it wouldn't matter.
If you can't find the alternate PIDs for the same thing but in the other units, I guess it's possible that the '08 BCMs have fewer PIDs.
Update: When I had my stage kit installed I had the dealer try and get the RPD to read English, no luck. They said they called and talked to an engineer and there is no way to get the '08 BCM to send the required signal to the RPD for the switch. Bummer. So it is up for sale, RPD, the connector and install instructions. It has been proven to work on the '09s that did not come with the option since they have a different BCM.
if I've understood one thing it's this;
I believe that you need the cadi module to retrieve the OS for the BCM... the candi module plugs into the TechII.
the cobalt sitting in my garage seems to me to not be able to start because the BCM is preventing it... I am not a fan of these stupid BCM's.
- the BCM can only be flashed once
- if the BCM isn't flashed correctly for the car NOTHING will work; even the ECM is controlled by the BCM.
- you need a TechII to flash the BCM
- you need to retrieve the OS from GM, to flash to the BCM

Yeah, basically the part number could be the same for the BCM, but the flash they put on it was/is different.
You'd then either need a fresh blank BCM to flash and get GM to flash it for you (fat chance of both of those happening IMO, but cool if you could somehow swing it), or you'd need to get an '09+ BCM.
The problem with the '09+ BCM plan though is that it wouldn't have your car's VIN in it. It therefore wouldn't play nice with your ECM. I guess you could just get a BCM+ECM that already belonged to each other, or just throw a random BCM in there and pair the ECM with the BCM using the usual steps to do that (and hoping that the VIN isn't hardcoded in yet another location that would keep you from using the BCM). The car would then think that it had a different VIN too, so you'd need to remember that when you're getting tuned, to use that VIN instead.

I do believe that the BCM communicates with the ECM, radio, and other sub-systems;
I have understood that if the BCM or ECM sees anything wrong, the car will not be able to start.
I would not be bothered to be wrong and corrected though...
(I'd love to get this cobalt in my garage started)

Just in case the guys were subbing for upcoming information/results. I realize they may just be doing it to keep it as reference or to read later but thought I'd post a quick note. No offense.
will a program which requires an XP operating system work properly on windows 98?
the 2008's have a different operating system, so the RPD cannot communicate properly with the car;
it will work and function, but by default it will be in metric mode ~ and you will be unable to change it into imperial mode.
This is a BCM issue - the BCM was changed between 2008 & 2009 model year cars.
I don't expect this to ever change.

i have a question on this, if ur installing this to the can port wires, what if u want to plug in an intercepter gauge as well or something else, will it not interfere with and one of them will not work like it does when u have a splitter?
