2.7 Pulley on stock heat exchanger and injectors

Hey everyone, I recently acquired a 2.7 pulley for my LSJ but I’m still on a stock heat exchanger and stock injectors. I do plan on swapping them out but until then do you guys think it would be fine to drive the car with the 2.7 as long as I baby it and don’t beat it up?
The car currently has
ZZP Tune
Pacesetter Long Tubes
NGK Colder Plugs
Injen Intake
ZZP Stage 1 Axles
GMPP Clutch
ZZP Upgraded IC Pump
OTTP Short Throw
Stock M62
Any help is appreciated😃

Seems there's still a handful of people here but maybe not enough that you're likely to get a good answer quickly. Try FB groups. You can post in the group and also in the relatively new chats. There's also at least one public Discord server if that's your thing.

I asked a guy I met in one of those groups.

He said
"2.7 is really small for stock cooling system and the injectors would easily be maxed out. Need at least 60# injectors, bigger intake and dual pass endplate with front mount heat exchanger or a stealth heat exchanger”

Idk if admin here are cool with people mentioning other communities. That's why I'm not being specific. I usually get a lot of responses in the group with 15k members.

Absolutely not. The stock injectors are basically maxed on the stock pulley. And you need to get cooling mods asap

You can live without the cooling mods if the stock system is functional. You’ll definitely notice the power loss when intake temps are 160 degrees f vs 100 f or less in the winter, but it’s not going to kill your motor to run a bit warm.

the cavalier guys that I have met would have no cooling on a 2.2 motor, running intake temps of over 200 f without any issues.

Would be safest to go to 60# injectors or similar. It would need a retune for sure though.

Don’t listen to that person ^. You need cooling mods. The more heat you create, the less power you will make. You want it as cool as possible. Cooling mods also make the recovery time shorter.

Before going to a TVS, I originally had a GM stage 3 (2.9) and wanted to go to a 2.7 on the m62. I had the 42 lb injectors from the stage 2 kit and dual pass with option b and a front mount exchanger. We ran the injectors out, and before finishing tuning I installed snow stage 2 water meth, and 60# injectors. stock injectors and cooling sounds like a grenade waiting to happen

Most lsjs on the road don’t even have a functioning inter cooler pump.

highest iat2 I saw with a 2.8” pulley was 160f on pulls to 120 mph in 100 f temps. It would recover to 125 f in about a minute. In the winter, iat2 wouldn’t ever exceed 110 f.

you can only get the air as cool as 10-20 above ambient. Summers gonna suck and winter is gonna be great, no matter your cooling mods

Summer doesn’t suck when you have the proper cooling.

Forgot how fun it is to play semantics on here. Thanks for that.

my only point is that you can do a 2.8” pulley and 60s for like 300$. If you buy a dual pass and option b, you aren’t going to gain power or torque with double the investment.

If I wanted to cool, I would look at a methanol/water injection. You will see a power improvement through timing advance for roughly the same budget. Would just have to keep it topped off

You don’t buy cooling mods to gain power. You buy them so you don’t lose power and so you don’t cook your ****.

I’m not about fear mongering new members. The stock cooling system is adequate for a stock engine. Can it be better, yes. But you aren’t going to “cook” anything without knocking or misfiring. Cooling mods won’t prevent either of those symptoms.

I agree that dual and single pass systems are beneficial to sustain power, but all the other talk is nonsense
