2008 Cobalt SS Coupe value??

You may remember, I bought a 2008 Cobalt SS Coupe for my son to fix up and drive when he turns 16. It drives fine but eventually will get too hot and has 80k miles. It was filthy and neglected, had a hole in the bumper cover, and has 2 codes (P0030 & P0243). The prior owner had the thermostat replaced trying to solve the heating issue (found it rolling around under the seat and the antifreeze is new). The tires are in really good shape (nearly new), brakes are good too, we've changed the oil, replaced the filters, removed the seats and cleaned them and the carpets extensively, and were getting ready to dive into the codes and eventually the bumper cover. My son really wanted a Mitsubishi Eclipse (don't judge) and we found one. It's older but in much better shape (lady owned). My friend, with the same age son, wants to buy the Cobalt. What do you think it's worth? He was sending me lightly wrecked ones with same or higher miles getting 4-6k. I paid 1600 and don't want to stick it to my friend but would love to fund the Eclipse, and maybe tires, if reasonable. Was thinking $3400 - am I crazy? I have new windshield wipers and 2 new (uncut) keys to go with it as well.

It's black/black.

Needs:
- spare tire replaced
- bumper hole fixed (buy a cover or body work)
- codes fixed (feel like 0030 might be due to 0243, was going to fix that first and see what happens)
- keys cut/programmed
- no clicker but that's not "required"

$3400 is a hell of a deal for an LNF with 80k. even with the issues.

I sold my 08 with 105k with 0 issues for 7k. and it was really worth 5500-6k but I had a loan and that was the amount i needed to get out of it.

Remember, 08+ LNFs are higher valued compared to 05-07 LSJs. not by much, but in running condition I could see that selling for 7-8k.

Thanks for the insight - 1600 was clearly a steal, 4K is prob still a good deal for them considering the work needed and what he will have when finished

I agree with Kolt, just let them know ahead about the issues.
