New 2006 Cobalt SS S/C owners - Mods done and being done

Hi, we are new owners of a 2006 Cobalt SS S/C.

Here is what we started with: A completely stock 2006 Cobalt SS S/C 2.0 with the Recaro Seats and LSD G85 package. It was complete black on black, approx. 82,000 miles and was a one owner(and a dealer) car. Recent paint job was evident. We live in Anderson, CA. Bought it in Reno, NV.. found out it came from Oroville, CA about 80 miles from where we live. Purchase made early March 2013.

After getting it home we realized that this car was great, but we wanted it to be better than that. Now all work that has been or will be done on this car is in our garage or driveway (technically we did get the new exhaust welded on at a shop and the tuning programmed at the dealer).

Here is what has been done so far, in order of installation: E3 spark plugs, 3" cat back exhaust, DC sports cold air intake, GM performance stage II kit (smaller serpentine belt pulley, fuel injectors, & programming), Hurst short throw shifter, new shifter cover, front axles from and "09 Cobalt SS/TC , new brake pads and larger cross drilled and slotted rotors, 4 piston Brembo brake calipers, and here is where we hit a slight snag. The 4 piston calipers do not fit with the stock "06 wheels.

Currently we have on order: a set of 18x7.5 from another '09 cobalt ss, a MRZ billet strut bar, blue wheel lugs, blue caliper paint, brembo stickers, blue lug nuts, and last but not least blue fog lights.

Now that I have filled you in on our complete build, you know what where we are with things. And everything that I removed, I now have up for sale as a semi complete FE5 upgrade

you should've joined here earlier and done some research first. You will more than likely be changing the stage 2 tune for a custom hpt tune as most do. prolly coulda saved yourself a good amount of money with research. but yeah cars looking good lol

Congrats on the car!!

Few questions/ suggestions tho:

- ive read those E3 plugs are crap get your self some ngk plugs (stock heat range)
- a 5mm spacer will help your wheels clear the brembos
- not sure if the rotors are centered, but then again u said you had 09 ss/tc axles
- How did you get the 09 axles to fit into the 06 ? there is a thread that says thats not a direct bolt in solution??

Welcome!

Remove those E3 plugs. Total garbage.

Also, how do you like the DC Sports intake? I remember when that came out.

I will repeat - remove those E3 plugs. Get some NGK BKR7E in there.

I did in fact do a lot of research on here and other places as well. My other half is in fact a mechanic. The E3 spark plugs are actually great and I run them on all of my vehicles. It runs better now than it did with the NGK The '09 axles are a direct bolt in. I do not and will not use spacers on my vehicle. If it doesn't fit right, I won't use it. The only thing I did not research was the fit of the wheels. As for the stage II tune vs HP tuner, that is just my personal preference. The exhaust is by TruBendz and the muffler is JDM RS type 4" N1 Light Blue Burnt Slant Tip T-304 Stainless Weldon Muffler 3" Inlet
And if anyone is interested I am selling the full front FE5 suspension including stage 1 axles, spindles, knuckles , Rotors, everything, Each side is fully assembled. AS for the rear, I have the shocks, springs and rotors. I also have all four wheels. I prefer to sell this as a complete set and am asking $1100. I live in Anderson, ca if interested contact shylah_muse@yahoo.com

OK. Don't listen to us, not like we drive cobalts or anything... The E3 plugs have been tried before by quite a few members, all with bad experiences. It's common knowledge that the 1-step colder BKR7E NGK plugs work great on LSJ cars and are highly recommended.

As a new owner, you should be researching which modifications work well on these cars and which ones do not. This forum has tons of knowledge once you sift through it a bit. Good luck.

They might be good in lawn equipment, but not in our forced induction 4 bangers.

Either pick up the stock AC Delco/NGK plugs or a set of NGK BKR7E's. Trust me, you will end up having blow out issues with those plugs.

The NGK's you replaced were probably worn out, or gapped wrong.
