Soon to be New 2005 Cobalt SS/SC Owner

Hey all,

My name is Corey, from Belleville, IL... about 15 miles from St. Louis.

I am planning on buying a 2005 Cobalt SS/SC within the next 2 weeks. My good friend left to go into the military and is selling his car due to that.

It is red, with aftermarket black rims, and tint and HID's. Pretty much all stock, and well taken care of. He did have an exhaust on it... but removed it and put it back to stock... it was EXTREMELY loud and obnoxious.

I got approved for the loan i needed to buy the car already... and just waiting on the duplicate title to come in the mail before i can get to the loan office to complete the purchase. I really look forward to joining the world of forced induction.... it will be my first time owning a supercharged car.

ANythibng in particular that i need to know or be aware of with this year and model of SS/SC? I know the throttle body needs to be cleaned out for the idle issue it has.... and he said that the passenger front HID stopped working... so he put the stock halogen bulb in... but it wouldnt work either.... so sounds like a bad headlight socket or wiring issue :-/ .

Looking forward to posting pics and showing it to you guys once i have it in my posession.

EDIT -- 5/2:
I found a pic of the balt im buying....

Thanks sir~

I have always been a Honda guy.... so thins will be a new adventure for me.... I currently own a 1997 Acura Integra GSR. Worked as a Honda Tech for a while at a local dealership.... and went to school for mechanics.... but have never been very familiar with forced induction vehicles.... especially domestics. So i am excited to learn.... and excited to join you guys~

I have always loved the Cobalt SS since they first came out.

Yers sir... as soon as this purchase is final... i will sell my GSR. I actually lost my title to it as well (fail) and will have to send off for a duplicate title. But at least it will be sold and i can pay off some bills with the cash...and maybe put a little money into the Balt.

Here is the link to my Integra progress.... just mainly did maintenance and minor repairs. Its my DD to work from Illinois to St. Louis every day... so just needed a good/reliable DD. Runs like a champ for having 211k on it. I took great care of it though. A/C stopped working at the end of last summer... and Power steering went out on it a few months ago. SO it was just time to look into another car... I have a 3 year old child.... so this will be a bit more comfortable to drive him around in.

Another question for you guys that have been inthe cobalt game for a while now... as i am not very familiar with them....

with the car having 89k on it... and being an 05 supercharged car.... anything that i should be looking for specifically to address as far as maintenance or common problems at this mileage? I know the throttle body needs cleaned... and passenger from headlight needs replaced... but anything else i should look for on this thing? I know GM typically do plugs at 100k.... as well as coolant. Im sure ill look into replacing the MTF pretty soon after getting it....

make sure the ebrake line is good....alot of cobalts hav a problem with the ebrake tightening, sometimes not grabbing all the brakes.

I would still check the plugs now.

Look around for any leaks. Inspect control arm bushings, sway bar end links, brakes, air filter, & exhaust system.

Also, checking/cleaning the throttle body wouldnt be a bad idea either.

If well taken care of, these cars can go for a long time w/o any major issues.

Thanks guys~

My buddy took really good care of this car... so i know it runs good and the motor/trans/clutch are all good... he did say it had an idle issue at times... but i know thats due to the throttle body being dirty like most of them get...

Ill post pics of this thing hopefully soon. Hopefully i can get the headlight working asap so i can use the HID's.
