I'm taking notes, I'm sure I'll have similar issues with the B&Gs. Although I think I'm going to take it to Denny's neighbor Jim to have them installed for several reasons. One, I know him and I know he does good work; two he's my main instructor at BeaveRun so he's had experience with the car and from what I've seen him do, he can sit in a car ONCE (not even driving) and tell you what will and will not work on a car; and three, he's already cornerweighted my car so I can get an install/corner weight/plus since he's got race experience, quite a few "presets" for different tracks all in one stop.
And on a sadder note, today may have been my last auto-x for a while. There's something very not right about my suspension. Doing strange things and making funny noises. Not a good thing in a sweeping turn to get halfway through and the right front just drop almost to the ground, nearly spinning the car (without moving the wheel or changing acceleration). Ordering sway bar links tonight or tomorrow, with steering knuckles soon to follow. Screw money, I can't afford the suspension to go on me when I'm out and about on a highway.

I don't think the install would've been bad with a few more tools. We had a good bit of tools, and I like working at Al's dad's place... but nothing beats Dave's garage... "If you can't find the right tool in this garage, Mr. Arizona... you don't belong near a car."
I just used channel locks on the socket and an allen wrench going through the socket to the bolt.
So whos up for what on cinco de mayo, also known as May 5th, also known as my birthday, more importantly my 21st birthday

We'll see, I'll probably come out for a little bit. My b-day is three days after yours. Probably won't stay out long, but I'll come out for a little bit since Wes can't get into bars and such. I would HIGHLY recommend Dave and Buster's for your b-day - I had parts of my 21st there (partied for two weeks in two different cities - WOO HOO!). I know it must have been a fun night, cause I really don't remember much about it. The only memory I have is of stumbling out the door and there being a bunch of cops waiting for drunk drivers and everyone I was with freaking out because they thought we'd get nailed for public drunkeness.
How is the overall reliability of the cobaltSS as a daily driver?
My brother is looking for something economical and it was a car that came to mind.
He drives 80 miles a day and would not modify it.
Is GM's warrenty decent and honored fairly well?

Unmodded, it's pretty good. If he just wants a daily driver, there's also the SS N/A (unless that's what you were talking about). Especially unmodded, he shouldn't have any problem at all with the warranty. I think it's 3 years/36k still on bumper to bumper but powertrain warranty is 5 years/100k.
I wouldn't have any issess with the car if you wanted a good DD.
Ask anyone here.... I DRIVE the car... over 100 miles a day and I've had no reliability issues. I've had some typical GM FWD issues... brake pads/rotors.. and little QC issues, but otherwise, it's great.
I autocross mine as well, and it's holding up. I have had the car 20 months, and just turned over 60K miles on Saturday.
Wow... you know... I can't believe I've not heard about this before....
Did you guys see the thread in "general cobalt" about the SS being gone COMPLETELY for 2008???
The 2.4 version gets called a "sport" and the SS/SC is gone altogether.....
NO other FI version.
GMInsidenews.com had the thread about it as well.

SBO is already done, Laser Blue is either done or ending soon as well. (What's with all the making colors for 1-2 model years....???)
I think the change will help the 2.4 out a bit *thinks of Dan's auto-x classing mess* and give it a chance to stand on its own for a bit.

Right.... they ended the Production run of SBO , and LB is soon to follow. I was just commenting on the list that those colors were cancelled for 2008.
As far as teh Turbo motor.... I'll believe it when I see it. I think the entire SS line is going to be gone except for the Impala since NASCRAP is a big supporter of it.
You'll see the Camaro with the SS badge, and that's about it.
Cobalt Type R FTW.........
( WOW... did I really type that? )
If I remember right... I have the patent on that phrase.....

They're really shooting themselves in the foot if they don't replace the SS/SC with another decent-power 4 banger. They pulled a LOT of people in with the SS/SC that may not have bought GM otherwise.
On a side note it feels like this day is NEVER going to end. BLAH.

Dude i payed 3000 for just a lip kit and a smaller engine? I should have gotten the big block and the higher compression. The last cobalt painted with SBO rolled off the line back in early March sometime. And I agree with Brian about believing a factory turbo cobalt when i see it.
I'm soooo drained both physically and mentally from the weekend. Between the TNT on Saturday and lack of sleep that night... and then yesterday... WOW i'm beat.
BUT... I got to drive teh SC Miata! That honestly was a tie for the highlight of the weekend.
Tim offered me a drive again when it's dry as well. He & his wife are such cool people. ( and not just becuase of that ).
And yes.... GM has some identity issues right now. They can't compete the in sporty compact segment without a top-dog kinda vehicle.
Look how forgettable the Focus became after dumping the SVT version.....
Classic......
As far as the J-Body FI car..... well that was then... this is GM's new reality. They MIGHT since they have the engineering $$ already invested in teh Roadsters and the HHR.... but if it happens, I'll be pleasantly surprised...
AND ... after hearing the 3" catback on the GXP that Manfred bought... I'd seriously consider buying a Turbo Cobalt ( whatever they decided to name it )

Plus, GM has a few small cars that are tuner cars. Its called the Saab 9-3, Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Redline
