Dyno for a Harrop in an Ariel
im going to be looking at early may sometime, and bob wants us to do either a mon or tues
Eric, u know vince? He lives 5 minutes from my house in WA u must have seen my car then lol.
Vince is an awsome tuner, i love doin road tuning with him. Doin like 90-100 WOT then let off turn car off, logs #'s in and watch the car get the power.
And yes we are tryin to get a dyno day for a meet i would love to see the Ariel Atom on there. I saw a yellow ariel atom yesterday in bellevue on Northup, dunno if he was goin to ParkPlace or not.

I spoke with him a few weeks ago about tuning my TVS. He said he had not tuned a TVS before but was working on one in Atom in a couple of weeks...
you said you lost 10 to 15 hp with the 85mm what did you have on before?
We tuned with the 85 mm got our numbers and then installed the 80 mm. The comparison is between the 80 and 85 at basically the same time and conditions. We had purchased the 85 as that is what Harrop told us would be best for the car ...
so i should tune with the the 85mm?
cool thanks . I was thinking maybe it would make more power with less boost and more timing.
I am done dyno'ing the Harrop for now and ended up learning a good lesson out of it. 10 Supertrapp plates per side will kill your engine! I really have no doubt of that, backed up exhaust will do that. When I first dyno'ed last month my car and the Atom that was with me both had a flat spot at 6000 rpm on. We both had Fortress exhausts with 10 per side. I can't speak for the other car since he has not been back to the dyno, but, mine got to 6000 went way rich and boost spiked. Well, duh, maybe the exhaust was backing up. Long story short the car makes 18 more whp in warmer weather with no flat spot, boost spike or going rich with 22 per side. According to the Supertrapp website their exhaust is free flowing between 20 to 23 plates, obviously it is a little more than that.
315 whp uncorrected on a 20° warmer day. 18 whp gain by adding Supertrapp plates
I also got rid of the LS 4 throttle body. The dyno says that I gained a significant amount of HP down below 5000 rpm by using the stock Cobalt TB that came with the Ecotec's. This was 22 plate Supertrapp to 22 plate (per side) Do to not tuning the LS 4 with open exhaust above 6000 rpm I can't comment above 5000, which is where the LS 4 would have shown. Vince, my tuner, has not given up on the LS 4 and is taking the table from the car it was from and will adapt them to a Cobalt ECU. For now the LS 4 is best used for land fill!
Vince was able to get two maps into the Cobalt ECU and we were able to switch them with the meth system! He is using an unused pin on the ECU, basically when it has 12v it switches to the meth map when it doesn't the non-meth map. The meth system is a Aquamist HFS-5 and has a switch on it that will interrupt a wire current if it does not have pressure for its pump or you are out of fluid. It was fun though as the unused pin that Vince was feeding 12v to get into the second map was the brake sensor pin. Every time it got 12v it retarded the timing on its own. Vince re-wrote some of the code on the fly and got that to stop and now it works as planned. NWAE Cobalt stopped by during the runs and I got to meet Tom.
The car is now wonderful to drive! Very great car now, ... with a lot more power. I will screw it up later with a ported head and associated mods, ... for now the summer the way it is!

thats great you got things worked out man
and looks like vince will be able to do 2 maps like i talked to him about.. 1 for 93 octane and 1 for race gas..
