correct, they only fit 05 and 06s, so i'm guessing that he has a set that won't go into his 07

yeah, the camshaft installation tool from j-body performance. it holds the cam gears in place so you don't have to touch the chain in order to swap cams

I have never used one of these tools personally, I prefer just timing the motor. But I do know of someone that did use it, and it turned out the cars timing was off, and had some valves + piston carnage.

Now I am not saying the tool doesn't work, most likely was user error. But IMO, just retime the motor, cheaper than getting the tool, and it really isn't hard.

Anyone else have experience using on of these?

point taken, you shouldn't attempt replacing cams if you don't have some common sense. but using this tool, the timing gears and chain shouldn't move at all. and even if they do, you should turn the motor over a couple times by hand and make sure the marks still line up before putting it back together and starting it. as for cheaper, well, i already have it, so at this point it won't cost anyone anything.

Like I said, I am sure it was user error, because I have heard of lots of people using tools like this before. Just tossing it out there that its possible something can go wrong if you don't feel comfortable.
