Manifold Gaskets and Studs/Nuts

Before I go to the dealer and get my ass handed to me with an invoice I was wondering if anyone had the following:

1. Lower exhaust manifold gasket; the one where the header and downpipe meet

2. Downpipe to catback gasket; just like it says, the gasket that connects the downpipe and catback

3. Manifold studs x3

4. Manifold stud nuts x3

This is all for the LSJ (2.0 Supercharged) header and downpipe.

Unless you have your heart set on replacing the studs, best bet is to just put bolts back in. 3/8-16 thread, get some nice grade 8 bolts, put a little anti-sieze on them.

I've removed so many stripped studs from stock LSJ manifolds, I hate using them over again. Dunno what they use from the factory, but it's a shitty material.

How do you take broken studs out btw? I guess I could get new bolts.

I've always had the manifolds out of the car, so I just grab whats left with some vice grips and twist it out after a good soaking with PB Blaster or a similar penetrant. If they don't snap, there is a hex end to them, put a small 6-7mm socket on them and take them out.

If they do snap off in the manifold completely, drill them out and helicoil the manifold. I've never seen that happen personally, and i've dealt with over a dozen LSJ manifolds myself.

Yeah I know, and then theyll rape you on shipping.

I was hoping to get all of it for about $20.

I'll probably just get bolts and nuts from autozone and the gaskets from Chevy. I'm going back to stock and I never want to see anything before a catback on my car ever again. I hope the bolts will hold up and not come loose.

you can probably find the gaskets at an auto parts store as well. just pretty standard 2 and 3 bolt flanges.

Yeah, factory gaskets are MLS, which is nice. You're looking to save money though, so...

A couple dollars versus another exhaust problem is totally worth it. Exhaust leaks f*cking suck.

Agree 100%. I had to find a copper dp-catback gasket to keep them from blowing out, but it was well worth the trouble, never leaked again. I blame it on my crooked XTC downpipe though.

What do you mean by a copper gasket? I also think I need to have my downpipe to header flange machined on the downpipe.

A gasket made out of copper. Popular in turbo setups because they don't blow under high pressure.

Don't you ever put Studs and Nuts in the same sentence A-GAIN! That's just gross...
