Some pics from my vacation a few weeks back. Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T2i. Lenses EFS 18-55MM and 55-250MM 58MM lenses. Still learning all the options in manual mode. My dad found a few old color lenses he had with his old film SLR camera that still work on my lenses. I'll try them out later.

On to pics.

Tae open your aperture wide and you'll want a shutter speed that's pretty high. At least 2x your focal length but I say you want to be over 300/400. Raise the ISO speed if you need faster.

Speeds are way to slow, and it looks like you were moving your camera to follow the car. When your shooting that slow, it will cause that blur you can see. Raise the ISO, open the aperature, and thats all you can really do unless you have a way to add more light. Or get a lens that is faster. Night shooting is hard.

For this image here you would want a shutter speed faster than 1/88 minimum, the subject is about 25% of the frame so a shutter speed faster than 1/110 would be needed to track properly.

The suggestion of 2x focal length is a good one, but this would be your MINIMUM shutter speed just to get a good static hand held shot without you blurring the image so you would need even more to freeze subject motion depending on your distance and how much of the frame your subject fills the frame. An easy way to determine how much you need you will need to figure out how much of the frame the subject will fill as you track it. Let's say your using a 50mm focal length. First of all you need a 1/100 shutter speed minimum just to not cause blur yourself. Next lets say your subject covers about 50% of the frame, you will need at least 50% more speed on the shutter as you track the object. You will obviously have to estimate the amount of area the subject will cover so if you don't want to guess then assume to use 2x the minimum shutter speed so 1/200. If you search around you will find suggestions of 1/250 to 1/500. The problem with saying use X speed is that they don't specify the focal length so rather than stick with a specific number consider to lens' maximum focal length and do your shots based on that. Use shutter priority for images like these and let the camera have full control of aperture and ISO.

Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: -3 EV

That was using B&W. I did two others in color, as well. The B&W looks better though than the orange hue.
